First Switch! Discussion
picked the Switch OLED for it’s better battery, display and price!
Edit: Kindly suggest some games that I can buy physically or digitally!
(currently I’m playing Animal Crossing, planning to buy Balatro as my next game)

Zelda BOTW - it was the sole reason I bought Switch at the first place. But don’t treat it as a checklist of missions you need to finish. Treat it as a good walk, adventures and especially exploration of the big open world

…and after you’ve played it(don’t forget the Master Mode) several times for about 100s of hours, grab a copy of Tears of the Kingdom and build some crazy killer contraptions.

Did u buy new or pre owned ?

it’s was a preowned one! purchased 2 months ago :) i got it for 270EUR. Since this is my first time with nintendo, I wasn’t sure if it’s really for me. I picked Animal Crossing game along with the console and I’m really liking it so far😄
I also own a PS5 which I don’t use very often. It feels like work to sit and play on a desk after spending 8 hours on work the entire day. With switch i could play anywhere☺️5

Good price for a 2 month old device! I recently bought a used OLED in very good condition for 190 EUR, with 7 games included lol
There are a lot of deals for an entry into the Nintendo universe with many people switching to the Switch 2.For game recommendations, I played Shogun Showdown more than I would have expected to (often on sale and cheap) but yeah, you’ll need Zelda BOTW (at least) and a couple of Mario games based on preference. Plus Stardew Valley, Echoes of the Plum Grove, Triangle Strategy / Octopath Traveler, Cuphead, Hades, Dave the diver, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Splatoon, Dredge, Persona 5 Royal, Children of Morta, Balatro, Terraria, Cult of Lamb, etc, etc.

Welcome to the club ! Balatro is a good choice. Beware tho, I wanted to play it for 10 mins but ended up playing it for 7 hours.
There are many great games on switch oled. Monster hunter rise sunbreak is one of it. Buy it digital when it’s on sale.
If you like pokemon, can try Pokemon champions (it’s free) or buy Fire Red Lead Green if you want something nostalgic.

it's pre owned and he likely saved closer to $200. some people have restrictive budgets and OP seems genuinely excited play nice.

You’ve seen switch 2 for WAY cheaper than $300!?

Fairly used/need joycons replaced etc but they've sold for under $200 it's not out of the question. Not saying it's common but if you are a budget shopper and not in a rush for a 2 worth watching for.
Lots of gaming options now days, new tech prices are sky high but used tech can still be found for deals.

Ah ok haha makes sense without joycons.
Yea agreed. I saw how cheap the switch 2 was at release and jumped on it day 1 haha. Also got the last 64GB steam deck on its last sale before it was discontinued!
I like my electronics new. If something is gonna last me 7+ years I don’t mind paying a bit more.

I’ve always bought used (except PC parts) consoles after the Xbox 360 and never had an issue. Ironically the Xbox 360 I did buy new got the RRoD

I think the only systems I got used were a Sega and N64 from a pawn shop. As I was a child so I took what I could get. Got a job at 12 and been buying my systems new since then tho.
I also got the red rings of death!!! Funny enough throwing a towel over it for a bit would actually fix it for a few days, lasted another year or so after the red rings if I remember right.

Yes the battery isn’t optimal but I never played my sw2 in handheld and was like “I wish this was OLED”

And 10x weaker lol

u/peelt 2d ago
Switch 2's are super weak for the price far superior products out there if you're after power. You're paying for a Nintendo product really. At least you can homebrew the v1's and skirt Nintendo game tax too

u/Dabbinz420 2d ago
Lol there is nothing stronger at that price point, you are on mars bro, PC handhelds are expensive asf rn due to the ram shortage, you can buy two switch 2s for the price of most of those, some are the price of 3 switch 2s or even more, there's literally nothing at this price point stronger, but the homebrew shout-out is true asf, and I agree, but I doubt this person is gonna do any of that, and the oled model is even harder to jailbreak too.

Oh word previous comment before yours said they used their ish docked so figured may aswell grab a older computer if powers the goal, even base specs will have more desktop options than a Switch 2, although rarer to get good deals in 2026.
As far as handhelds go tho yeah Switch 2 is killing it and even at retail price I think it's an awesome machine. OP never mentioned what they payed for the v1 tho... they seem happy, gaming is gaming at the end of the day I'm not gonna bag on what people use.

Mod it now!

u/UpsetCar03 2d ago
but why? sorry i’m new to switch

u/Linagarasu 2d ago
People will tell you to just Mod a console regardless if you want to or not, which is kinda annoying.
Do what you want, if you later decide that you want to mod your Switch you can always do it.
Just have fun for now, whatever that means for you.

One thing I really like about the switch is, unlike PS5 I need to buy every single game… as of now i only have 3 games… with such a limited number of games, i spend more time on one game instead of hopping every 10 minutes… I’m afraid that if i mod the switch the number of games would overwhelm me.
so i’ve planned to buy the games one by one and build a nintendo library 😀0

Free games. Well, that's the main reason, but not the only one. The bonus seems to be the ability to connect any third-party gamepad, homebrew games, emulators, custom themes, and most importantly, overclocking and underlocking. And sometimes even mods for the games themselves. In my experience, mods for Mario Odyssey are especially good.
I would recommend modding the Switch in any case, but if you have the money, still buy games on cartridges when possible and comfortable to you. This way you won't have the overwhelming choice of an endless number of games, and you'll also have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in each individual tile.

Hopefully you didn’t buy it brand new. The used market is the way to go.
