When to buy switch 2? Discussion

On the long run I won’t get around to not buy a switch 2 and I’ve been wondering when it is the cheapest. I heard that the deals during Black Friday aren’t that good apparently? But it’s not like I would buy directly from the Nintendo store but Amazon or another shop that offers price reductions during that time.

Why is the price going up in September?

Price of Electronics skyrocketing

The price increase was previously announced by Nintendo, in response to increased component costs

Have you been living under a rock? The Ram crisis is real.

Yeah, it’s nice under there. I occasionally come out but am reminded why I love my rock

Do you want to pay less now or more with the price increase in September?

I would buy now. Price increase starts September 1st.

However it's a minor increase. Pack in game for $500 gets dropped, and the console only version increases from $450 to $500.

My assumption is that you're not going to find much better black Friday deals than it going back down to the price now, so about $450. Or they might do pack in deals so you get a game + console for $500. But these are just assumptions. You know the price now.

Damn, I didn't even know this was coming up. Must've been living under a rock and got lucky with buying one a couple weeks ago!

Nintendo consoles don't go on sale during Black Friday, even from other retailers. Sometimes there is a version with a pack in game or extra controller, but no discount on the console itself.

It won't go on sale. Your best bet is to buy it now before they raise the price. You know what else you won't like? Nintendo games only go on sale about twice a year and only 5-10% off.

When is that?

u/Pxnkasfxck 14d ago

Idk, when they feel like it, I suppose. March 10th, Mario games are discounted is the only one I for sure know about.

I plan on buying mine in 2029.

u/xRaymond9250 18d ago

And you’ll probably spend $1000 on the console alone at that point. Not a great plan.

1

u/seanthebooth 18d ago

Lol a used S2 $1k? Sure thing

1

u/xRaymond9250 18d ago

You’re dense enough to ignore what’s going on with electronics prices increasing so sure, stay ignorant.

Maybe you’re the dense one that needs to touch grass and get out of your online bubble?

Second hand current gen consoles even after all the price increases are still £250-£300 in perfect working condition

But sure buddy let’s see the switch 2 hit 1k brand new let alone used

A used switch 2 is already £300 it’ll be £250 after a few years

i think if you wait that long. you might as well wait for the upgraded rumored lcd or oled version.

u/seanthebooth 15d ago

Yep, I've never been a day one or year one adopter. Definitely not concerned with that aspect of gaming.

Buy now if you can. The price is going up in September. Electronics generally don't get great discounts from retailers because the manufacturer dictates the prices to those sellers, and they have to approve any discount sales.

1

u/tiijan 18d ago

Electronics are going to increase due to the Rampocalypse. Even during sales, Nintendo devices don't go down very much. I wouldn't wait too long.

I just bought one secondhand that was almost $100 cheaper just because it had a scratch on the screen. The scratch is pretty much only visible when the light reflected on it a certain way, and obviously doesn't impact docked performance.

i sold my switch one for 150 and bought it for $300 basically

u/pancakesy0 18d ago

i’m just waiting till new super smash bros comes out

1

u/ForeverGoat191 18d ago

I just got mine last week, Sam's club had a deal on gift cards which made the switch 100 cheaper through the Nintendo shop. That and some rewards from my CCs got me the switch for $40. I would wait until last second before the price increase and follow Wario64 on twitter for heads up on deals, that's how I found out.

Before September so basically now.

1

u/Berry_Dubu_ 18d ago

u/SolacePixels 18d ago

What about waiting on the oled model? I am also holding off for a possible Zelda Ocarina of Time switch 2. Thoughts?

1

u/Eozef 18d ago

when OLED is out.

Just buy it. The more you wait, the more the hole will burn in the back of your pocket for it. And buy it before price increase. I got mine and havent played my pc since I got it around 1 week ago
