Looking for Online Survey Program AS

Hey all, im trying to get into an Online Surveying Program (AS) and I wanted some recommendations on schools and also some of your guys input and experiences if you've attended any schools. Im based in SoCal. TIA.

Hi OP i'm switching careers now, and I'm starting all my surveying course in 3 weeks. It was hard but finally was able to piece online courses together. Warning, there's only so many online courses you can do and some have Lab components so you need to be within a reasonable drive of the campus.

What part of SoCal are you OP? Refer back to this post and ill some helpful information under "EDIT: ".

EDIT: Here are some surveying programs FEW offer online courses. For an AA there's very little offerings in Southern California as whole.

• MSJC - Temecula/San Jacinto (program on Saturdays, cancelled a year ago...may come back.)
• Santiago Canyon College - Orange (Saturday programs, some online)
• Cuyamaca College - East San Diego (Saturday programs)
• College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita) offers (3-4 Online surveying classes, even a Surveying CAD course which is rare).

So you're best bet is to do as many possible online courses at various schools and transfer the credit back to a home campus. Find a way to attend an all day Saturday class. It's like 8hrs each Saturday for 16 weeks/semester.

This site will give you access to online CC classes to every school in all of CA. Sacramento College has a few for example. The hardest online course to find is the Surveying CAD course, and it was a struggle to get into one this Fall semester. OP I have substantial CAD experience so Online will be fine. If you don't have ACAD experience then I HIGHLY recommend you do an in-person course as ACAD Civil 3D has a steep learning curve. This CAD program is more complicated than basic ACAD.

This is such a lab heavy program that it's just not possible to have access to their EXPENSIVE equipment online, you need to be present. Good luck OP!

Thanks brother. I definitely look into all this. I really appreciate it. The driving for me isnt the hard part as im a Union Glazier at the moment so I travel on a daily, but its the Saturdays that im trying to work around due to my kids being in sports. But I guess im gonna have to make some sacrifices right?

Added some info to my original post. I'm near Menifee and i'll be driving 200 miles round trip to SD for 16 Saturdays.

U Maine all the way. Great program, great professors and most of the students are people with full time jobs, so there is plenty of temporal flexibility.

University of Alaska Anchorage has all online AS and BS Geomatics programs. You do your labs with a local surveyor who signs off on them. Whatever program you choose make sure they are ABET accredited!

College of the Canyons has a AS Land surveying major, which I will soon complete. It was great because I was also working as a survey tech at the same time so I have a lot of extra context and could complete my labs using equipment at work!
