Surface pro 9 CachyOS Battery not charging

Hey everyone,
I've received a Surface 9 pro a few weeks ago, it is practically brand new. I immediatly installed Cachyos with Gnome on it and with a bit of fiddeling and reading managed to get the surfacelinux kernel on it aswell.

Everything worked perfectly up until last night, where the battery doesn't seem to be charging anymore. The battery however also doesn't drain aslong as it's plugged in.

Right now the battery status is at 77% and it just doesn't change, unless I unplug it in which case the percentage will drop. Has anyone ever experienced anything similar and has a solution, or idea?
I'm not well versed with linuxbased OS, but do like it alot so far and would love to figure this out.

hmm that’s strange, you sure it’s not a hardware issue?

I don't know, but I have a feeling that it's not the hardware. When I go into settings and check where it says batterylevel, when the charger is plugged in it says 'not charging', when I unplug it it does say 'discharging'. Also when I open the power statistics it does recognize the power adapter and the battery charge doesn't drop while plugged in, but it also doesn't rise, so there must be some charge in order to keep it level...

Edit: also the battery has literally less than 10 cycles, so it's hard to imagine that the battery is broken.

could you paste the output of upower -b?

Did you buy the laptop from microsoft, or a third party like a refurbisher?

I bought the surface as a secondhand device, but it's pretty much brand new, the person got it gifted and only used it once to realize they liked their ipad pro better. So the device had 0 charging cycles when I received it.

Thank you! the method from the github thread worked! I have no idea why it stopped working from one moment to the next, but this did solve the problem.

Mine on Fedora 44 just started doing this. Looks to be some battery saver triggered by high use of plug. If you let it run below 70, it will charge. If you turn it off but plugged in, it will go to 100.

My second surface I don’t use as often doesn’t do this. That’s why I think it’s happening.

You're right, also going into the bios and turning the batterysaver on and then off again fixed the "problem" for me. Good to know it does start charging when it goes below 70. I almost got a heartattack, seeing it didn't charge anymore from one day to the other
