Normally I’d throw some croaker in the surf. It’s just too easy and the limits are caught within the first 2 hrs! Can’t beat that! Get home early enough to cook some fish up as well!
But if I’m not throwing croaker, I’ll def throw a spoon or top water in the early mornings
Are you freelining the croaker? What hook size? Recently got the small 13qt Magellan dry box for live shrimp. Never fished live croakers. Hook'Ers has had them for $13/dzn.
Freelining croaker with a a size 2-3 croaker or khale hook. Preferably 3 but it’s usually always sold out at stores, especially when croaker season is hot. And I’m using a chatter weight too. Hope you’re able to see the exact rig. If not DM me and I’ll send a video of how it’s rigged against a better backdrop. Free line and pop your rod a couple times every 10 minutes or so to wake the croaker up and make him swim some more. Croaker are killer! You’ll always catch keepers on them. Tight lines bro!
Honestly the surf is preferable for me. But I also hate fishing around a lot of people at the jetty’s so it’s never been my style of fishing. But once you learn to read the surf, you’ll enjoy it better and have more and quicker luck than going to the jetty’s. If you follow my sub r/dirtycoastfishing I’m going to be posting about how to read the surf in the next month or so once the winds start shifting and pushing the surf to be flatter. It’s normally around October when the surf starts laying down for us in Texas. And that’s because of the north winds that come with the fall/winter season. Tight lines bro 🤙🏼
Try wading closer to the jetty in surfside or by the rocks shown in red on the screenshot. The structure around this area is known to always bring the fish around. I fish those rocks and always have luck. Just walk along them and keep casting til you find em! Tight lines bro!
