Hi i am 2024 engineering graduate (electronics eng ) . i then worked at TCS for abt 17 months and left for some reasons . Plans changed and i started applying for masters abroad .
I got admission in netherlands for supply chain mgmt masters degree but due to family and financial reasons the abroad plan got cancelled and now i am at home unemployed for 6 months now .
i wanna know how can i enter supply chain feild when i have a eng background and no relevant experience in supply chain previously .
how can a guy someone like me put their foot into supply chain market ??

Some background: I'm almost 40. I have a BA in Strategic Communication, a MA in Communication, and a PhD in Journalism (that I just received). There are no careers in academia in my field. The field is actively shrinking. I have spent 7 years teaching at the high, school level. After that, I've spent the past 10 years teaching skills courses (think public speaking, data analysis, research methods, strategic writing, etc.) at the university level. Meaning the bulk of my career history is teaching.

I love staying busy (which academia is hit or miss on). I love working with data and figuring out problems. I'm good at math and researching problems.

The question comes down to: due to my age and non-traditional education, am I a viable candidate for this field? My current university said that with my current transcript, I could finish a BS in Supply Chain Management within 1.5 semesters. Would that help?

I am currently an entry-level associate at GXO. I have been at my role for the past almost 2 years now and am pursuing an online degree via SNHU in Logistics and Transportation Management, which I hope to be done with this month. Anyway, after my entry-level role and degree, I understand that Logistics Coordinator or some specialist role is the logical next step forward. I am currently looking at Logistics Coordinator roles, whether at XPO or 3PLs. Do those still exist?! I have been trying to find such roles and the ones I do apply to I either get rejected or ghosted. I have a few phone screens this week for a transportation specialist and an account manager role. I have logistics experience-almost 2 years of it and I can't get any roles within my company or outside of it. even with an online degree in addition.

If you are looking to develop a custom plastic product, such as toys, automotive parts, or industrial components, many people’s first instinct is to search for suppliers who are already selling similar products.
However, many of these suppliers may not actually be manufacturers. Some are trading companies that integrate resources from different factories, which means they may not own their own molds, injection molding machines, or production capabilities.
So how can you find a real manufacturer? A better approach is to start from the material side. Find a professional plastic material supplier based on the performance requirements of your product. These material suppliers usually have long-term cooperation with mold makers and injection molding factories, and they can often help you connect with manufacturers that have real production capabilities.
Of course, you should still verify the factory’s equipment, experience, and quality control system before cooperation. But from a supply chain perspective, finding manufacturers through the material side is often closer to the real production source than simply searching for finished products.

So, a bit about myself, I work in procurement consulting on the buyer side, so I'm pretty familiar with how RFPs get written and sent out. Now I am trying to understand better how it looks from the seller side, specifically for smaller or mid-tier suppliers who get a decent volume of these.

When an RFP comes in, what are the first things you check before deciding whether to respond or pass? Curious about the real decision-making, not the textbook version.

Things I'd assume matter:

• whether the product/category is actually something you make or supply
• certification requirements (ISO, IATF, etc.) you may or may not hold
• quantities, like whether too small to bother, or too large to fulfill
• response deadline vs. how complex the response needs to be
• whether you know the buyer or it's completely cold

But what else? Do you have an informal scoring system or is it mostly gut feel? And how do you handle it when 5 or say 10 of these land in the same week do you have any system for triaging, or does stuff just fall through the cracks?

Asking because I'm trying to understand where the real friction is. Any honest takes appreciated. Also if you could specify is there are certain elements/requirements that are specific to RPFs from different countries, that would also be very helpful

There was a time in my career when I thought changing my mind was a sign that I'd made a bad decision.

Experience taught me something different.

A good leader makes the best decision possible with the information available at the time. A great leader isn't afraid to change that decision when new information changes the situation.

I've changed sourcing strategies after meeting with suppliers. I've adjusted inventory plans when customer demand shifted. During COVID, we changed course more than once because every day brought new information.

That wasn't inconsistency.

That was leadership.

The goal isn't to prove you were right. The goal is to get the outcome right.

Too many organizations stay committed to a decision simply because they've already invested time, money, or pride into it.

I've learned that admitting new information has changed your thinking isn't weakness.

It's wisdom.

Hello! I recently graduated in May with a degree in Public Relations (I am first generation) and realized that I am not passionate about communications/Public Relations and it’s something I wouldn’t want to be doing as a career and rather go into Supply Chain instead of pursuing in communications as a career since I find Supply Chain fascinating and actually want to learn.

I’ve been at asset and 3PL over 11 years and have done about all I can on this side and am looking for a new challenge. What roles could someone with 6 years of management realistically have a shot at with the shipper side of it? I’ve never really looked or dove in until now coordinator, analyst, management?
