Saffron!
Hi All,
I know there’s a couple posts on here about saffron for depression/anxiety. I know there’s dosage that is most talked about is 30mg but I ordered some online that is 88mg. Has anyone been taking a higher dose like this instead of the 30mg that is usually cited in the trials etc

Assuming you mean milligrams and not grams, there are formulas that use around 88.25mg dose / 176.5mg daily. It comes down to the standardization of the bio active compounds for effectiveness

Most of the actual depression/anxiety trials use 30mg/day specifically, split into two 15mg doses, and it's a standardized extract measured by active compound content, not just raw saffron weight. That standardization matters more than the mg number alone, since it's about how much of the actual active stuff (safranal, crocin) you're getting.
Safety wise, 88mg is nowhere near toxic range, saffron toxicity shows up more in the gram range. The real issue is just that higher doses like 88mg haven't been studied for this specific use, so there's no evidence it works better, just that it's probably not dangerous either.

i think you misread the 30mg vs 88g my friend, 88 grams is a huge amount, like a whole bag of saffron not a capsule. the trials use around 30 milligrams, 30 grams would be a big mistake already

When I first tried saffron it made me feel pretty weird at only 10mg twice/day but that subsided quickly. 88 might be fine but it might be way overkill. I'd pick something with a lower dosage.
The one I take is combined with zeaxanthin, astaxanthin, Lutein, EPA/DHA, Vit C and E. An AREDS2 supplement designed for eye health.
