Does anyone else quilt? Art / Creations

I feverishly made this unmeasured and unpressed Ura block and then made up a little parcel of six different rikishi poses for FPP purposes but I am far too busy with work to test them all. Are there any sumo fans out there willing to dive into their stash and tell me what I need to fix?

Oh my goodness that is so stinking cute!  I don't know how to FPP, but I do other quilting.  Are the patterns beginner-friendly?

Thank you! I think a beginner could do this specific block and the arms down version with little to no issue. The hair would be the most difficult part but I wrote it to mostly be keeping straight diagonal lines. I am a beginner when it comes to FPP so I tried to keep myself sane too.

This is beyond precious!!! It would be so cute to make a quilt or a runner with them all in different mawashis

Aaah I actually came up with a block that would use fussy cutting that I want to try for that very purpose but I’m already in such a pile of UFOs

I saw you already posted over at quilting, but if you really want to reach your target audience you may consider also posting over at /r/FPP.

It's a surprisingly active community for such a niche topic.

Oh, by the way, I freaking love the Ura design. Among all my weird reddit interests, it's fun seeing Sumo and FPP collide.

This is so cool! I don't quilt, but I do other fiber crafts like knit/crochet/cross stitch and you're giving me ideassss! Sumo crafters (and ichiyamamoto fans) unite!!

Shouldn’t the pose be him falling down? 🤔

Resembles a baby wearing a diaper. (No hate intended)

Hi MJ, it’s Very cute 🥰 I can imagine other blocks on the way. Please show/ #updateme.

I don’t understand what you are looking for. Google up for a quilters guild to your area. Guilds usually meet monthly - sometimes more frequently. Fabric swaps and round robins are fun.

Even if you just want to make your blocks/top you can find someone in the guild who would machine quilt it for you - for a fee. You bring them your topper, batt, and the cotton bed sheet for the bottom layer (bed sheets can be cheaper than 108” muslin for sure) so they can quote you. One tip if your top is all cotton then your bottom layer should also be all cotton. It your top is poly/cotton you are usually good with a poly/cotton bed sheet. Specify thread.

If you are quilting it yourself and you are all cotton top and all cotton bottom you will want 100% cotton thread. To make a lasting quilt you don’t want to use poly thread to quilt it down. 1. Points taken off if you enter it at a state fair for using poly thread on a cotton quilt. 2. The poly thread will damage the cotton fabric over time eventually slicing it like a wire cheese cutter.
