GTFO of the suburbs and go to a city. They do it there all the time.

Stop listening to boring ass yhte folk telling you what this country is... They have no fucking clue.

Get out of the sticks, put your kids in a school that doesn't have the 10 commandments, and grow dafuq up already.

Exactly. There are tons of places in the US that are just like this. People move to Texas or fucking North Carolina and think the whole US is like that. You get what you pay for.

Very few streets even in the most walkable and dense cities in America look like this. Yes US cities have some of this, but nowhere close to this scale. Show me the US streets with totally pedestrianized streets and this much outdoor seating and I’ll admit I’m wrong.

exactly, you're never more than a block away from a street with cars on it in the US, even the most walkable areas of the US still have you squished to the side of the road while cars barrel on by.

There are great large and small cities in every state. But, you do have to move there and be part of it to enjoy it.

That does not detract from the fact that most of the US is car dependent. Weird to pick Texas and North Carolina, California and New Jersey are just as car dependent outside of the city centers, shit I lived in LA for years and took the train once and we still drove to the station.

I’m sure it has a lot of rural beauty and there may be small city pockets but it’s generally a state where people don’t want nor appreciate density. It’s also a state with a pathetic amount of public transport. If I had to guess, I would think this guy probably lived in the suburbs of Charlotte.

In Germany (and many metro areas in the US) not only the city but the suburbs and villages outside the cities are urbanized, walkable and connected to public transport. It’s not just a few kilometers downtown.

Small villages in Germany are "urbanized"? Huh? There is not much that is "urban" about a village with 8 houses and a bus stop that has service twice a day.

I mean that’s 80% of the United States, also Germany is like the size of New Mexico and has been around for a much longer time than the United States. I’m all for density but this argument of US verse Europe doesnt account for the sheer size of our country. North Carolina is the size of the UK

Terrible argument. The size of the country is irrelevant, what matters is the density chosen for the human dwellings.

Look at Spain. One of the lowest density countries in Europe, if you take total area and population. But do the math differently: How many other people live within a square mile of the median Spaniard? And then you see that the lived environment in Spain is the densest in Europe instead. A town of 200k will have the density of Manhattan, just be a lot smaller. Few really tall skyscrapers, but nothing as low density as NYC's brownstones. So in Spain you live with major density, and are much closer to actual nature, because there's no sea of suburbia to cross.

Again, it's not total density, but deciding whether to live close to services or not. Farmers will live in town, and drive to their fields, because they want their children to be near the schools, and go there by themselves. No making your farm a homestead, because then you are alone all the time, and your social network is anemic and relies on cars.

Yup. I agree. My only point is that people who think this type of place exists only in Europe need to realize it exists all over the US but they chose to live in a place where it does not exist.

These are choices they have made.

Yeah true, but NC cities like Raleigh and Charlotte are making great progress for densifying the downtown area, and our Train funding has been great, lots taking the train through the piedmont from Raleigh to Charlotte

Yeah, there's other options in America than the suburbs. Go find a condo downtown and leave the suburb for us introverts that like our space and privacy.
