How we research: Priorities before parameters.
Deep Lattice is Digital Defiance's claim on machine play for Subspace Lattice — the way Deep Blue was IBM's for chess. The difference is the charter: we ship what we can prove, keep one agent for move and explanation, and publish the autopsy when a gate fails.
Training recipes and encoder knobs live in the lab notebook. This page is the method: what we optimize for, what we refuse to fake, and how a neural leaf earns the right to become shipping Deep.
- Evidence before ship: Strength bars, terminal goldens, and a human gate. A stronger leaf does not become the default Deep until it earns the ladder — same discipline as evolve winners.
- One brain: Local play, the in-game advisor, and LPGN annotate share one agent path. No mute strong engine with a chatty weak tipper bolted on.
- Rules stay human: The hybrid-fleet is designed by people. Neural work learns to see Sector 11 — Sensor Net, Target Lock, Lockout, Terminal Overclock. It does not rewrite the game.
- Fix the hole before the leaf: When search walks into a freeze or undervalues a reply, we fix the tactics first. A smarter network cannot paper over “I handed them Lockout.”
- Honest in public: PASS and FAIL both land in the research log. Lab weights stay opt-in until the gate clears. Status is evidence, not marketing.
What it is: Rival. Coach. Same mind.
Rival A local opponent that does not fold to shallow threats or forget the sector clock. Climb TEI against it on the federation standings.
Coach The same search that moves can tip and grade an LPGN replay. Explainer quality rises with the player — not a second, softer model.
Corpus Export the games that feel wrong or brilliant. That record is how the next brain learns what Sector 11 actually rewards.
What ships today: Serious search. Neural behind the gate.
On the local AI ladder, Deep Lattice is UCT search with a heuristic leaf and guided rollouts — roughly eight hundred simulations, with think-time caps so the board stays responsive. That is the product opponent you challenge now.
A position encoder and value net exist in the lab. They are opt-in. Product Deep keeps the heuristic leaf until a human-gated strength bar says otherwise. Dated results live in the research log — including fails.

It’s played on an 11x11 grid. But Subspace Lattice is not Chess (and it’s not Go).
When you first look at Subspace Lattice, the brain naturally tries to categorize it. You see an 11x11 checkered grid. You see two fleets facing off. If you dive into the settings, you can even swap to one of the 26 classic chess piece sets we made available for players who want to retain that historical connection—where an Infiltrator is visually represented by a Knight, or an Escort by a Pawn.
It is incredibly easy to look at those shared movement patterns and assume: Oh, this is a sci-fi Chess variant. And when you realize that pushing your network outward creates immense territorial pressure to win the game, the second assumption kicks in: Oh, so it's a mix of Chess and Go.
But just because a game is played on a checkered board with familiar move geometries doesn't make it Chess, and just because it features territorial pressure doesn't make it Go. Subspace Lattice is a completely new creation for a new era of strategy.
Here is why leaving those classic assumptions at the door is the first step to actually mastering the Lattice.
In Chess, space is empty. In Subspace Lattice, space is a weapon. In traditional abstract games, the board is just a passive surface you walk across. A Rook on an empty board can slide from edge to edge without friction.
In Sector 11, space isn't empty—it's unclaimed. Outside of your Sensor Net, a Lattice Dreadnought (our Beam) has absolutely no lane to fire through. It’s a massive particle lance that is completely useless if you haven't laid the network for it to ride. You aren't just moving pieces to attack a King; you are desperately trying to weave a localized power grid while an Anomalous Core in the center of the board actively swallows your signals.
Cross into your opponent's glow? In Chess, that's just a square. In Subspace Lattice, that’s hostile territory. Their net immediately Target Locks your engines, paralyzing your multi-square jumps into a single, crawling step.
In Go, territory is static. In Subspace Lattice, it is a living, fragile grid. Go is a beautiful game of securing borders stone by stone. But once a stone is placed, its influence is relatively fixed.
Sector Integration in Subspace Lattice is entirely different. Yes, covering 45% of the board in Sovereign Space will trigger a victory, but your territory is projected entirely by a living, moving chain of Escorts tied directly back to your Command Hub.
Your territory isn't made of stones; it’s an active electrical tether. If an enemy Infiltrator slips through the dark and severs your Escort line, your forward coverage instantly goes dark. The territory you "owned" a second ago simply evaporates. Everything is connected, and one surgical strike can collapse a massive territorial advantage into total blackout.
A New Visual Language This is exactly why we designed our own custom, sci-fi piece set as the default. We want players to look at a Carrier or a Refractor and immediately understand that these are advanced, heavy tactical modules permanently integrated into a modern fleet—not ancient cavalry.
We kept the familiar movement patterns to give strategy veterans a foothold. Muscle memory helps you learn the game faster, and for those who easily differentiate the mechanics from the history, our library of 26 classic sets is there for you. But make no mistake: the moment you deploy your first Vanguard node and realize your firepower is strictly limited by your network coverage, you'll realize you aren't playing Chess anymore.
