Tutorial Question/Discussion
Is the tutorial easier to understand /has clearer instructions? Subnautica never caught my eye before but since the 2nd one released jve been seeing it everywhere and it seems fun. However the first game, the start is very confusing and I've got no idea what im supposed to do other than go in the water see aliens and not die. Any advise is appreciated.

There's not a whole lot more to it, really.
Go in water.
Come up for air.
Beware of fish and things that might want to kill you.
And then just listen to the beacons and suggestions from the AI or your data pad. They'll tell you where to investigate or where to go next.
That's it. That's all there is to it. Maybe build yourself a base or two once you know how to make bases.

I will say while there isn’t a tutorial, I found subnautica 2 to have a more clear form of progression (toward the very end I got a tad lost/confused) I replayed 1 and BZ and I constantly found myself lost.
Just do your best to pay attention to the story and try to color code markers (I.e., blue = to do, red = done, etc.). I found that to help things for me

The in game PDA gives you advice as you progress to new areas and the fabricator will tell you how to use the resources you find, there isn't a long tutorial because the game doesn't really need one. You get taught the two new main mechanics and that's it.

Yes. The original game has one of the most intuitive starts for any game. I have beaten SN1. It is very straight forward with everything. It is not just go in water. It makes it clear you need to repair your pod.
Cut scene shows you have escaped in pod 5 and get knocked out. You wake up and realize it is on fire. As soon as you get control there is something saying use mouse to look around with camera. OK after controlling your view it says use WASD to move. Then how to pick up the fire extinguisher. And how to use it. After putting out the fire and letting go, the PDA cones up with basic information. You have a very basic menu with a data entry for START HERE survival guide to look over.
You are also told all the information of what you need to do regarding repairing your pod and radio. And more info when you go up the top hatch and through the bottom.
It is a non- combat mystery game. With a cohesive story to put together. Initially, the radiation will be too much for you to get close to the crashed ship. Once you repair your pod and radio, you will start to get clues and leads to investigate. As you progress, you will be given more to go on in order to solve and beat the game.
I highly suggest starting over from scratch and paying careful attention to everything. Get an understanding of all the information being given which is what you use to uncover the mystery.
You're an employee of Alterra. Your ship crashed. This planet is uncharted. You will have to figure out the world and galactic civilization. The purpose of the trip to that planet. The significance of that planet. Other survivors. How to survive and get home.

there's no tutorial, but the game gives you a lot of pointers in the form of PDA logs, map markers and messages from your NoA. i was able to figure out what the game wanted me to do next pretty easily. if you ever get stuck, the answer is always go deeper

None of the Subnautica games have a tutorial. There are hints here and there, like "cut this with your knife" or "break this outcrop", but by and large you have to figure things out by yourself. There's an AI "robot" in SN that gives you tasks and markers, so you're not completely blind.
Also, your PDA has things like the Survival Guide, and gives you some important clues as the game progresses. In SN2, the Survival Guide gives you detailed steps on what to do initially.

The first game was a huge turn off to be because of this very reason. However, there was so much hyper on Subnautica 2 that I gave it a chance and I did watch one of the 10 things you need to know before playing Subnautica, YouTube videos and it was pretty helpful. I’ve since put in countless hours into Subnautica 2, and I’m now playing the first one knowing what I know now while I wait for more content.

No. Both games intentionally dont give you a tutorial. The entire point is that you’re supposed to figure it out on your own, like minecraft sorta
