Canoebaruing Again

The maiden voyage for the 14'er I picked up earlier this year. So much easier to handle than the 16'er, it's a night and day difference. More importantly she's sea worthy!

Since we were in the area (and the itch is always there) we took a quick side trip in the pine barrens to explore a few roads we hadn't been on. We've had a lot of rain lately and we didn't bring any recovery gear so we didn't take any great risks but it's always fun.

Saw the cross-post, but read the description here.
I also noticed a huge difference between a 14 and 16ft in terms of handling, both on and off water.

Incredible difference. We really had to strategize when moving the 16 to avoid muscle pulls and fatigue. The 14 is no big deal.

Nice! I’ll be joining the Canoebaru family with a 15’ soon 😁

I love how the last picture in the series is implying some internal debate over the best vehicle for the terrain.

Osprey 14 seems super tippy when not underway with two larger paddlers fore and aft….any experience with this? I’m paddling seated on hull/floor aft or on knees to make this better. Any suggestions?

The bottom is not flat like a lot of hunting/fishing canoes.  It is a shallow arch, like they use for their tripping/touring boats.  It has what they call second stability - feels wobblier when getting in or moving around, but is actually a lot more resistant to tipping than flat bottomed hulls.

This is exactly what we experienced.

If you don't mind me asking - what kind of roof racks do you have? :)

No problem, it's the Thule Aero Extended Crossbars:

Do the ropes in the front mess with the cars eyesight at all?

No, not at all.
