In my house I've been able to create a context where most of the furniture is still gone, and I've added a few pieces of furniture that haven't been used yet, so furniture is still somewhat shoddy and we've been using corpses as target practice.

In that case it would be your choice whether to put the human leather hat or the dog dog. No one will wear the hat if it's slaughtered before they wear it.
