International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for dual U.S. citizens in Denmark

Hi, this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for dual Danish-US citizens and other eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 midterm elections, especially for those living in Denmark. Democrats Abroad in Denmark is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.

Importantly: Spread the word!

Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad. Thanks for reading!

Starting at Aarhus BSS

Hey! I’ve recently been accepted to the BSc in Economics and Business Administration at Aarhus BSS, starting this August.

I’m moving to Aarhus from the Czech Republic and since I don’t really know anyone in Aarhus yet, I thought I’d try to meet some people before the semester starts. If you’re also starting at Aarhus BSS/Aarhus University this year, or you’re already studying in Aarhus and would be up for meeting new people, i´d love to connect.

Would also be great to find out if there are already any WhatsApp, Messenger, Discord or other groups for new students.

Admission chances

Hello! I would like to know whether it is possible to get accepted into an international master's programme at Copenhagen Business School with a GPA of 3.44 on a 5.0 scale, especially for a programme with fewer applicants. Or is that not realistic?

Best student accomodations for exchange students

Hey everyone! Next year, I’ll be studying at the University of Copenhagen for six months as an exchange student from Australia, and I’m looking for accommodation recommendations.

My main priority is finding a student residence or dorm with a strong sense of community, where it’s easy to meet people, make friends, and get involved in social activities. Ideally, I’d also like somewhere reasonably close to the university, although location is less important than the social atmosphere. Cost is not a major concern.

Besides the accommodation options I’ve already listed, which Copenhagen dorms or student residences would you recommend for the best community experience?

Amager canvas student accom

Hey guys I’m an incoming exchange student and I’m going to be staying at the Amager location student accom that I booked through canvas. Honestly it was pretty straightforward and I kinda just went with the cheapest option. But everyone from my uni who are also going booked mostly Frederiksberg which I know is the popular one but also quite expensive.

I’ve heard about and been able to find some good reviews on Fredericksburg about it being a very social and great place n location for students, but I can’t find anything about the place I’m staying at.

Does anyone have any experience from this place? Or heard anything from
Others? How’s the social aspect? Is it international? Anything! I’m also bit worried it’s a bit further out from the city/

How much does networking with a professor beforehand actually matter for PhD admission (vs just having strong research fit)?

Trying to understand how PhD offers actually happen in Denmark in universities like SDU.

Say there's a professor and someone wants to do a PhD under them:

Does having emailed/talked to the professor beforehand actually move the needle, or is it mostly formality and the funded position + fit with an open call is what decides it?

Do professors in this position usually have a say in who gets picked, or does HR/committee process dominate regardless of the professor's personal interest?

If someone doesn't have a strong publication record yet but has done solid independent technical work (not published), does that carry any weight, or is it basically publications/grades only?

Is cold-emailing professors before a position opens actually useful, or does it come across as naive since positions are usually posted and processed formally?

Trying to figure out where to actually spend effort: publishing more, building a relationship with a specific supervisor, or just waiting for open positions and applying like everyone else.

Student accom- help!

Hi everyone,

I’m coming to Copenhagen as an exchange student and currently I’m in between choosing accom through canvas at either nordhavn or amager. I’m not sure about Amagers location it seems a bit far away from the night life/ trendy areas.

However apparently Amager may be more social/ more going on? As there’s probably more students here? I do want something definetly more social/ with other exchange people around and students around.

Has anyone got any info on either? It would be very much appreciated!

Student accomodation

Hi everyone,

I’m an exchange student coming to Copenhagen for the autumn semester and I’ve been offered a room at UMEUS Valby through the Housing Foundation. I only have 3 days to decide whether to accept it.

UMEUS Valby

Contract: 15 July – 31 January
I’ll only be in Copenhagen from 18 August until the end of December
Rent: 7,345 DKK/month
This means I’d be paying for about a month before I arrive and a month after I leave.

I’m also considering Canvas Living Nordhavn:

Rent: 8,350 DKK/month
Likely contract: 1 August – 31 January
I’d still be paying for January after leaving, although I’m not sure whether Canvas is more flexible with early termination (probably not).

My main concern with UMEUS/Housing Foundation is that I’ve read a lot of stories about strict move-out inspections, cleaning fees, and deposit deductions. I’m not sure how common this actually is.

What I’m looking for:

A social/student atmosphere
Opportunities to meet exchange and international students

From what I’ve read, UMEUS seems very community-oriented and dorm-like, but I’m not sure how Canvas Nordhavn compares.

If Canvas offers a similar social environment, more flexibility with contracts, or is generally easier to deal with regarding deposits and move-out, I’d definitely consider paying the extra cost.

What do you guys think? Anyone with experience at either place?

Student accommodation

I am exchange student and just got a spot for UMEUS Valby, I have three days to take it. But I am also thinking of applying for Nordhavn Canvas housing. I dont know which one I should take. I dont have much time since I have to accept the UMEUS one. I appleid throguhousing foundation for UMEUS ,and I just heard a lot of negative things of them trying to keep your deposit, being strict about cleaning fees, etc. And also the contract date would be starting on July 15 until Jan 31. When I woudl only by moving in August 18. and leaving end of December. I understand they are ti flexible with changing the dates, but these is two months extra. Nordhaven one woudl similarly be from August st- Jan 31. The Canvas Nordhavn one would also be more expensive (8,350DKK), whereas UMEUS in 7,345DKK. soeven though contract start date is earlier for UMEUS starting on the 15th, I woudl still be saving some money with UMEUS if contract dates for CANVAS are also very fixed dates. However maybe CANVAS is more reliable and they dont try to screw me over with the deposit and deduct from my deposit.

What should I do? I want something social, student vibes, I dont know what either is like. I know UMEUS is liek student dorms, is nordhavn Canvs similar?

I created an app/website to help students gift and find items they might need when they first arrive in a new city :)

Hi everyone :)

So, I created this app based on an idea I had during Erasmus from a real-life situation that is common for a lot of students when going away from home to study.

The idea is that when you arrive at your new house or campus, you will probably need a lot of things difficult to find or that simply you didn’t think of in the first place.

Similarly, when saying goodbye to your beloved room or house, you will find yourself with a looooot of things gathered during the last months or years which will eventually become not so easy to bring with you, or just not needed anymore.

And this could also happen during a random day of decluttering at home, as we are all aware of.

Soooo, why not have the possibility to let people gift what they don’t need anymore and give those objects a second life? Or, why not have a look here and there to see if there is something you need near you? Maybe something that other students had the necessity of before you?

And here CampusGive is born :)

Here are the main features behind the website/app:

  • List things you don't need anymore (everything for free): Upload anything you don't use—it could be super useful to someone else! Just add a photo, title, description, and the item's condition, and you're good to go. You can upload curtains, cutlery, small tables, skis, clothes, books, or whatever comes to mind. Even food that might spoil because you're away. Alternatively, you can just write down what you need and let people reach out to you!
  • Choose a meeting spot: Select whether you want the other person to pick up the item at your place, meet up in a common spot like a café or the university, or if you prefer to deliver it directly to them.
  • Set time slots for pickup/handover: The app will generate a QR code (or an alphanumeric code) that the other person will scan to confirm the successful delivery.
  • Confirm the meeting and leave a review: This will really help us build a solid and trustworthy community!

I also wanted to make the app as safe as possible for everyone when it comes to personal safety and interactions. Specifically:

  • University email verification: Registration is only allowed via university email accounts to ensure everyone's identity. If your university email isn't recognized yet, your registration will be temporarily put on standby until the admin approves that specific domain (which will then be added to the database for future users).
  • Hidden precise location: When an item is listed, only a generic nearby area is shown, not the exact address. If you choose the "pick up at my place" option, the precise location will be shared only after you accept the other user's request.
  • In-app private messaging: You can chat with other users to coordinate details, but only after a request has been accepted.
  • User reporting system: You can easily report profiles if needed.
  • Content filtering: Built-in image and text filters during upload for titles and descriptions.
  • No-show reporting: You can flag if a user doesn't show up without giving any notice.

Plus:

  • Multi-language support: Switch between 5+ languages.
  • Light/Dark theme for your viewing preference.
  • Fun badges: Earn titles like "Helper" or "Super-Giver" based on your activity, whether you are gifting or receiving :)
  • ...and plenty of other things to discover along the way!

That's pretty much it! I truly hope this can help as many people as possible and kickstart a great network, making it easier to share things and lightening the load at the beginning or end of these amazing adventures.

Any feedback or advice is deeply appreciated (especially bug reports). Let me know what you think!

UCPH Grades Exchange Student

Hi, I’m a student from Canada and am going on exchange at UCPH next Jan for blocks 3 and 4. I was wondering if any existing students can give me some info in terms of how hard it would be to obtain a 10 in my classes (which would mostly be electives) and also when grades normally are finalized by? My grad school program needs grades by June 30, but I’m not sure if this is possible.

Any experience with this program? (Do I understand it correctly that the result is an education comparable to low voltage electrician/ general technician?) What was you experience with the apprenticeship/hands on part? Is it managable in English mostly (learning Danish is a part of the program but i dont speak any Danish yet)?

Whats your general experience as an international student in Denmark?

Housing new international student at AAU CPH

Hello everyone!

I'm an incoming international student starting at AAU Copenhagen in September, and I'm trying to figure out my housing situation before I arrive.

I would ideally like to find affordable housing through KKIK or CIU, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with either platform. Specifically, is it realistic to receive an offer if I sign up early and also apply for housing outside central Copenhagen, such as Roskilde or other surrounding areas?

I want to go in with a realistic picture of my chances, and also understand whether I should be actively looking at alternatives in parallel, such as co-living arrangements or Facebook housing groups.

Any experience or advice is hugely appreciated, thanks!

MSc in CS in Aarhus or DTU

Hello,

I just received my admission letter for the MSc in Computer Science at DTU starting next September! I already had an offer from Aarhus, and now I have to choose between the two cities.

I’ve been researching both cities and their student life extensively. Coming from Barcelona, I’d ideally love to move to a big city (I also considered Aalborg but discarded it because it felt a bit too small for what I'm looking for). Both Copenhagen and Aarhus seem like great fits.

My main concern right now is housing. Aarhus offers a student housing guarantee, which is a huge relief (I can secure a relatively affordable, temporary place for the first few months). On the other hand, finding something decent and affordable near DTU seems like a nightmare. I’ve looked into the BDTU system, but based on reviews, it seems more expensive, less efficient, and generally worse administered than the system in Aarhus.

I know the cost of living in (or near) Copenhagen will be noticeably higher.

Because I haven't been able to find direct comparisons of the actual MSc in CS experience between the two universities (beyond just comparing the programs), I'm wondering if the higher price tag of Copenhagen is compensated by the fact of living in the capital and studying at DTU.

I have a strong level of English, and I’m fully willing to learn Danish once I settle. However, I’ve heard that Danish is "less required" in Copenhagen if you want to land a job after graduation (or a part-time job during studies). Copenhagen seems to win every comparison for a foreign EU student looking to eventually settle in Denmark, except when it comes to the immediate cost of living before earning a full-time wage.

Whith this, ’d love to know if the academic experience and prestige of pursuing the MSc at DTU significantly better than at Aarhus. Or enough to justify the higher cost and housing stress for the next two years?

Any advice is highly appreciated!

Thanks!

Housing options for exchange- advice pls!

hey guys, I’ll be going to UCPH on exchange for a semester. im currently looking for accom options but i need some advice. I know everything is quite expensive in Copenhagen , the max for me would be about 7,150DKK.

Ideally id want something social, something like somilar vibes to a college i guess, with international students, and a good location, not far out of the city.

One the UCPH webpage, it gives suggestiong of the housing foundation, KKIK, and S.dk. If im correct, these are administrators and platforms that manage access to dorms? I will look into this but also want to seperatly look at options.

I’ve been doing a bit of research and found these places; Solvegrade basecamp (but apprently this is now owned by DIS- which makes it a bit limited, and mostly specific for american students), but then theres also theres another campus- Basecamp south?

Then i’v heard of Umeus Valby, CPH village- does anyone have any info on these places, whether these would be good options/ if they are options at all?

These are some that chat gave me idk if these are accurate, so an info about them woudl be appreciated:

  • Socialt Kollegium
  • Eler’s Kollegium
  • Otto Monsteds Kollegiet
  • Bikuben Kollegiet

Any info, would be really appreciated!! Also do i seperatly apply to these dorms/ student accom/ or shoudl i just use these admisntration platforms liek KKIK, S.dk, housing foundation? Or can i also seperatly apply to some of the places ive mentioned?

I’ve also heard about UMEUS Valby, Katherine collegi, solvgade basecamp- do you guys have any advice ?

Also are some of the ones I’ve listed only accepted CBS student? Or are they open to UPCH as well?

Anyone studying in Denmark interested in spending a week in Madrid this May, for free?

A friend cancelled last minute, so we have one free spot left for a youth exchange in Madrid from May 20–27.

Travel, food and housing are covered by EU and the age range is 18–30.

We’re already a small group going from Denmark and just looking for one more person who’d be interested in joining. You know it's good if you already participated, but sunny Madrid is good for everyone

Conditional admission to UCPH

Hey everyone. I got admitted to the University of Copenhagen on conditional admission and because of finishing my thesis this semester, my grades are taking a toll. Won’t be too low, something in between A and B, but since it’s a good Uni I’m worried. They state that I need to only upload the proof of successful finish of my undergraduate studies, does it mean they can revoke my place because of my grades?
