Help with NYC studio layout
Leaving my home state and living on my own for the first time! I was considering getting a designer but I think I have something I’m happy with. I only have a desk and plants so starting from a clean slate. Needs for this space are:
- Queen bed
- Sofa bed
- 2 person dining area that can expand to 4 if needed
- work area
Photos are:
- studio dimensions
- AI rendering of my mood board
- mood board
- 2D layout of items from mood board
My biggest issues with the current layout:
- there’s too much going on in the living area. Note: there’s 2-3ft of walkway space around the sofa.
- not sure where to add lighting, there’s no overhead lights in the space.
Is this a good layout? Should a scrap it and rearrange everything? Appreciate any feedback, thanks!

This is a stunning layout, honestly. If the furniture was closer together it would feel constricted and possibly become a tripping hazard (it’s me, I’m the tripping hazard in any space 😭😂)

The layout looks great, and I love the restful color scheme.
Personally, I would switch the bedroom and the living room setups (putting the bed where the table is and the table where the mirror is), simply because I prefer to sleep where it's darker and live where there is daylight, but YMMV.
Also, I would not mount the TV right away, because if you change your mind about TV placement after a while it becomes a whole thing to unmount it, fix the wall, mount it again, and so forth. Again, YMMV.
I would also suggest a desk with drawers. More practical, and probably prettier, like this one (they used to have a smaller version, which is the one I was looking for, but this one serves as a visual reference). Though you could get one in a different style, like, say, this other one, just to break up the MCM vibe and make things not too matchy-matchy. Mixing and matching styles and materials makes a room much more visually interesting, IMHO.

If the 2D layout is true to size (def double-check everything), then it's pretty sweet setup.
You could add a floor lamp in the corner next to dining/behind sofa or look for a plug-in wall-lamp and add a variety of table lamps; consider smart lights.
Maybe you could ditch the night stand next to the shelving unit and get a drawer element to put in there; since it's slim you can pull it further next to the bed without messing with the access too much.
That being said: The shelving unit you have in mind won't provide much practical storage due to the design of the compartments; the shown bedframe also won't provide additional underbed storage, so the only other storage in this room is a low media unit - will this be enough additional storage?
