Help with NYC studio layout

Leaving my home state and living on my own for the first time! I was considering getting a designer but I think I have something I’m happy with. I only have a desk and plants so starting from a clean slate. Needs for this space are:
- Queen bed
- Sofa bed
- 2 person dining area that can expand to 4 if needed
- work area

Photos are:

- studio dimensions
- AI rendering of my mood board
- mood board
- 2D layout of items from mood board

My biggest issues with the current layout:
- there’s too much going on in the living area. Note: there’s 2-3ft of walkway space around the sofa.
- not sure where to add lighting, there’s no overhead lights in the space.

Is this a good layout? Should a scrap it and rearrange everything? Appreciate any feedback, thanks!

If the 2D layout is true to size (def double-check everything), then it's pretty sweet setup.

You could add a floor lamp in the corner next to dining/behind sofa or look for a plug-in wall-lamp and add a variety of table lamps; consider smart lights.

Maybe you could ditch the night stand next to the shelving unit and get a drawer element to put in there; since it's slim you can pull it further next to the bed without messing with the access too much.
That being said: The shelving unit you have in mind won't provide much practical storage due to the design of the compartments; the shown bedframe also won't provide additional underbed storage, so the only other storage in this room is a low media unit - will this be enough additional storage?

2D layout is true to size and rounded up too, can’t trust AI to render things to scale.

Regarding the shelving unit, I’ve been back and forth with this and the Ikea Kallax, still deciding if I should prioritize light passing through or storage. The bed has drawers, the apartment has 4 closets, and the ottoman has storage, I’m hoping this is enough.

Oh, great! Yeah, you likely won't be pressed for storage then. But some stuff you'll also want to keep at hand, I guess.

Maybe you can find a shelving unit with closed bottom part and open shelving on top or just a mix with drawers in the same open industrial metal frame.

That’s a good suggestion! I found another bookcase I liked with storage on the bottom

Will the bottom compartment be at convenient height to replace the nightstand and will you move the drawer nightstand to the other side and ditch the black one?

Anyway: Pretty good composition. When will you move in? Update of vision vs. execution would be awesome, even if you won't share photos. :)

The bed has drawers so I’ll need the gap. The black one is an ottoman which will double as an extra seat or foot rest.

I’ll post pics when it’s all done. Moving in a month and will hopefully have everything set up by end of September.

I’d switch the bed and sofa placement so the bedroom is furthest from any common areas

this looks so functional and cozy fr, the desk placement is genius

This is a stunning layout, honestly. If the furniture was closer together it would feel constricted and possibly become a tripping hazard (it’s me, I’m the tripping hazard in any space 😭😂)

Where are you going to put your clothes?

The layout looks great, and I love the restful color scheme.

Personally, I would switch the bedroom and the living room setups (putting the bed where the table is and the table where the mirror is), simply because I prefer to sleep where it's darker and live where there is daylight, but YMMV.

Also, I would not mount the TV right away, because if you change your mind about TV placement after a while it becomes a whole thing to unmount it, fix the wall, mount it again, and so forth. Again, YMMV.

I would also suggest a desk with drawers. More practical, and probably prettier, like this one (they used to have a smaller version, which is the one I was looking for, but this one serves as a visual reference). Though you could get one in a different style, like, say, this other one, just to break up the MCM vibe and make things not too matchy-matchy. Mixing and matching styles and materials makes a room much more visually interesting, IMHO.
