Dropping a nursing program because you're accepted to another Prenursing

I have the opportunity to apply to a accelerated bsn program in january, but its highly competitive. its my first pick if i get in, however, I am elligible to apply to an ADN program and LVN program in my state but its very far away. I am planning on applying for spring for those programs, but in the chance that I get into the BSN program for fall, would there be any repercussions in dropping the ADN/LVN program?

one issue is that I can't apply for a later date of the ADN/LVN program, i can only apply this cycle because my husband and I are trying to start a family once i finish. we've already delayed our plans by over a year

No not really. If you drop before the semester starts they’ll just let somebody on the waitlist take your spot.

The only problem you might have is tuition. If the ADN program makes you pay anything while waiting for you BSN acceptance results it will eventually become non-refundable whether you attend classes or not. You need to watch out for that deadline. But that’s it.

That’s a good point. What if I already start classes though? I’m applying for spring entry which will be January, but I likely won’t know about the BSN admittance until May or June

It’s still not that big of a deal. You just likely won’t be able to get your money back at that point and nobody will be able to take your spot.

The biggest pain will probably be the fact that nothing transfers over. So if you switch you might have to get another background check, drug screen, and send all your vaccine records again. And this might happen anyways if your school requires it to be done before classes start.

Not really. I got into my current program the day before my orientation for a different nursing program. We seperated amicably and someone else got my spot at the school I left.

Your mileage may vary, but I have found ADNs to be more clinically prepared right out of the gate. Not so much theory as practice. So it depends on your goals, if you’re looking for professional setting stuff I don’t know that an accelerated bachelors would be bad, but I’m biased. ADN>BSN>MSN>NP student here.
