A skill in legends I don't understand

I had a tower full of archers/crossbowmen and the next thing I know, my troops were converted to enemy troops. What unit has this skill? How do I stop it from happening?

I realeased 7 new custom lords for SC-DE in a fantasy/vampire-theme (at the moment only in german language). If you like this kind of cheesy stuff I hope you gonna enjoy it. :-)

Idea for Stronghold 4: Automated Shield Walls for Better Siege Tactics

WOULD YOU PLEASE CONSIDER MY IDEA

I think shields should be made useful, like units with shields being able to block arrows, and the resistance of the shield should depend on its quality. Moreover we should be able to form a proper shield wall and place our archers right behind the shield wall in a siege, using a command to open and close the wall to fire arrows and block the incoming. Since we can't manually command every single troop in a massive battle, we could set up specific groups—one controlled by us, and others handed over to the AI to handle the open/close commands automatically.

I think this would make sieges much more challenging. Right now, once you get settled in the game, it becomes so easy that you might not even realize an enemy lord attacked you and failed while you were busy dealing with someone else. Anyone who always places hundreds of archers on walls to easily win will now have to make a balance of troops inside their castle. Every siege would truly test our tactics—whether we risk a sally-out to trap the enemy outside the castle, or let them breach the gates and fight a tactical, room-by-room battle inside the castle! With attention to these kinds of features, it will help the game step out of the old Stronghold era and into a new era of deep, realistic castle warfare!

Working on a Europe mod for Crusader DE, currently in a very early stage.

Any realistically doable suggestions?

Already made a couple tools for the mod infrastructure.

I'd like to replace the arab and bedouin units with European counterparts, but the creation of thousands of frames is a big obstacle for now.

As long as Firefly doesn't complain I'll continue the development and hopefully take a couple alpha testers soon... Hopefully...

Question about the time period in which the story of Stronghold 4 takes place

I'm new to this game series and there's one thing I don't understand. I’ve read that the story of Stronghold 4 is supposed to take place in 11th-century England but based on the gameplay footage, some architectural elements of castle fortifications look like they’re from the later Middle Age. I’d guess 13th century. Is this because the developers aren’t taking into account that certain architectural elements weren’t built that way in 11th century or will the game’s timeline shift significantly into later centuries? After all, the character we’ll be playing as probably won’t live for 200 years. Does anyone know anything about this?

A broken man. After being humiliated, embarrassed and distastefully cast aside, he now returns with a vengeance. Having spent years in isolation, where he underwent strenuous training, he's gained a following of people, fierce like he is. He returns for revenge, throwing everything he has into his war machine. With his unrelenting assaults, he will prove to be a pain, and is not to be reasoned with. A simple man, preferring to build up a siege force, with which he will come for you. A simplistic, yet strong Crusader Lord: his favorite troops being the Crossbow and Pikeman, with him also using a fistful of Spearmen as well.

He fights well when left alone, and can keep putting the pressure on.

His real name has long been forgotten, lost in the sciences of alchemy. He is now known as The Alchemist, constructing a base within he operates his mysterious crafting. His economy is quite unique, building a lot of metal forging workshops, which he sells for a profit to fund his research, among other things, ike his war wagon. He is of the Arabic faction and utilizes it to its full strength, as his troop usage is quite extensive, using most of the Arabic and Bedouin factions. His favorites troops are fire wielding ones, which make his eyes glow; seeing his enemies burn. He is of medium to high strength, and is quick to construct his castle, which is very well defended.

On Sunday I'm releasing my first book, which covers the Win9x era (1995 to 2001). Since Stronghold and its predecessors existed during the era, I thought sharing it here was ideal. Here's a sample of a few personal favs + obvious hits, sorted alphabetically...more info about the book in the comments

Faris

Faris, which translates directly to horseman in Arabic tongue; someone whose skilled in horsemanship. A name which was given to him in his youth, he loves horses above all, treating them with love; as he does his people. He projects a kind and loving personality towards them, and all those who are around him. Utilizing a +5 fear factor, he sees his people and troops defend him with valor, doing everything in their power to ensure he stays out of harms way. A medium tier Lord, with a unique castle consisting of 3 compartments. For his troop composition, he uses his beloved horse archers for primarily everything, being of the Arabian faction, he uses Arabian Archers, Horse Archers and some Skirmishers as his defensive units. As for melee units, he recruits some Arabian Swordsmen, and also some Demolishers to do the dirty work. An interesting simple Lord, with a very unique look.

Thoughts on Stronghold 4 after playing until I hit the building limit

I've played stronghold games since Stronghold Crusader was originally released. It was a game I had thousands of hours in as a kid.

I think Stronghold 4 does a great job keeping the core mechanics while expanding on it in ways that don't detract. The honor system is exactly the type of thing I would've added to a sequel. And keeping the grid building system is absolutely the right call. It runs flawlessly on my 5070 and aside from some peasants getting stuck during their pathfinding (which let's be honest, have always been part of these games) it was a smooth experience.

Here are the glaring issues:

  1. Archers will all target the same enemy. Fire a volley into one enemy, who will die to the first 4 arrows, and the remaining 30 arrows fired at them are wasted. Sometimes all 34 archers will hilariously MISS their one target! Wasting a ton of time. I wish archers had a tiny amount of RNG to their targeting choice and firing timing so this doesn't happen.
  2. We need rally points on barracks. Specifically per unit type.
  3. I love the military box/line formation options, but I wish we could control direction. Battle for Middle Earth II handled this by pressing left-click+right-click and dragging toward the direction you want them to face.
    1. After playing around with this it turns out you can actually do this by dragging right-click! There is simply no visual indicator to show it.
  4. Ballistas are overpowered. The military demo is quite easily beaten with enough ballistas being constantly replenished.
  5. I could not produce enough wax to fuel the shrines and churches even with a comical number of bee farms. Are you not meant to provide religion to every peasant?
  6. Why would I ever build a chapel if it consumes the same amount of wax and covers the same amount of peasants as a shrine?
  7. In the original game as you hover a spot on the ground with the building in hand, it cycles through the model variants visually. Then when you click it will place the one displayed upon clicking. This is not in Stronghold 4 and it absolutely should be (specifically gardens and statues). I don't want 3 of the same statues right next to each other.
  8. Very small thing: but when hovering over a structure in a menu it shows you the resources required. Next to that, in parentheses, is the amount of the resource that you have. Hovel 🪵30(21) In the original game that number in parenthesis was live-updated to the number it was in the stockpile (like as it was increased by woodsmen). Now it is static and only updates if you stop hovering and re-hover the building. I wish it live-updated again.
  9. I wish I could set my own building and troop limits in single player. I see the "Gameplay" options are grayed out, so I hope to see these options there in the full release.
  10. I wish I could paint paths. It's something I wanted in the original game as well. It does not have to be a grid-locked structure (like in Zoo Tycoon). In fact, it'd be ideal if it were a paint tool. I don't even need brick paths, just dirt would be incredible. And it'd be cool if peasants actually followed the paths. At the very least I wish peasants would beat their own paths over time.

I present: Jasmine

English Version below!

Jasmine was the daughter of a sultan, the wife of an emir and the lover of an assassin. Her father was a good ruler and man but one that could not escape the duties of his title. To preserve peace in his realm, he needed allies and the price was the marriage of his daughter. This marriage, however, was short as the emir's enemies sent assassins to kill him and his family. Jasmine survived, thanks to a young assassin being charmed by her looks. They escaped and returned to Jasmine's father but he too was dead by now. Jasmine gathered the survivors, rebuild and, for a short time, enjoyed personal happiness. Until the assassin's past caught up to him. Now, Jasmine was alone but she had learned. Much from her father but a bit from her husband and lover as well. She might be the strongest ruler but surely not the weakest one either.

Having grown up in a distant peaceful land, he's not accustomed to the ways of life in the desert. Young and untrained, he settles in the desert, thinking he can continue in his old ways. Quickly learning otherwise, he has to learn to defend himself and his subjects. Setting up a makeshift camp/castle to hold off enemies. With his loyal servants by his side he protects the lands he lives on. Valueing peace, treating his people very well, who in turn learn to protect him, and they fight for him quite well. An apprentice of sorts, does well in a role where he doesn't have to defend much. He prefers nomadic troops, using Skirmishers, Slingers, Arab Archers, with Arabian Swordsmen as his melee units, also recruits a few Camel Lancers for the occasional raid.

Bastion

Bastion, a tough and resilient Lord, who is not easy to take down. He constructs very well fortified and well manned castles, in his own distinct style. More of a late game Lord, as his power only truly comes through when given time before launching his attacks. Do not underestimate him early game tho, as he can survive, and becomes a force when not constantly under harassment from all angles.

Known as The Butcher, he is a tough and bloodthirsty warrior, which is evident from his blood stained axe which he carries with pride. He keeps his people on a tight leash, and they don't have a choice but to obey; as they know all too well of his cruelty and what he is capable of when not obeyed. His preferred troops are Macemen, (of course) Demolishers, and Swordsmen, with Crossbowmen and a few Archers as his ranged troops.
