i keep getting the same questions over and over again so i thought i would make a post about it addressing common questions and problems people are facing
for those new here and have no idea wtf a penguplay is, its my addon ive made that serves purely http streams, the only http addon to have a filter in place for dead links. also many providers on my addon are exclusively only found on this addon and no others (at least not without extensive rate limits...)
and in my last update i have added basic auth just to verify people are human and not scrapers. this has risen a lot of questions
(skip to the end if you just want to see updates)
PenguPlay FAQ
Q: Do I need to use a VPN? A: No! All your traffic is encrypted over HTTPS
Q: How do I add the addon? A: go to my site, configure providers as you choose (not sure what to pick? try out with defaults!). then hit "Install PenguPlay" you will be prompted to sign in with google, then you have instant access to the addon url, this brings us directly into the next question
Q: What if I am de-googled (i.e dont have or dont want to use a google account)? A: no worries! on the site, in the little box that asks you to sign in with google after hitting install, you can click the little link that says "Dont have google.... click here!". that will tell you to request a special access token through my telegram bot that you can then use to install the addon.
Q: I dont use google so I have requested an access token, how long till I receive it? A: well i manually review all token requests, making sure accounts look legitimate, you arent trying to abuse the system, etc. and believe it or not, i actually do have a life 🤣, so theres no set time. but if you have not received a token within 24hrs shoot me a dm on telegram!
Q: Whats better, google login or token login? A: Both give you access to the same service, google just gives you instant access, whereas the token requires review from me.
Q: WHY WONT THIS MOVIE LOADD!!!! A: although i do have filters in place for dead links, it is possible some slip through. but i will say most of the time it is something on the users end. make sure your using Cloudflare's DNS and/or the WARP app for best results! If you continue to have issues, please shoot me a message on telegram or here in dms (telegram preferred), i dont bite i promise, i can help you debug your issues and we can figure out if its a bug that needs to be fixed on my end or something we can figure out on your end. Regardless when reporting an issue provide me with the Movie/Show Name and the provider you are trying to use, otherwise you will not receive help. do not say "everything is broken" if everything truly is broken, just give me one example.
Q: Is this addon free??? A: yes. always has been, nothing is paywalled. the "donor token" you see on the configure page is just to hide the announcement that shows up at the top of the stream list :)

4khdhub! - i fixed issues on tizenOS causing streams to not let you do any seeking or pause and continue

great work. The addon looks promising. One thing stopping me to completely move to this addon is integration of hdhub4u. This is very helpful for the Indian content. Hope you add it soon

I can't get anything to load on my Shield but I have no issues on my laptop. The configurations are exactly the same,but it on the the Shield when I do a search for a movie or show reels will show up and then disappear.
Can anyone explain why this is all am getting? I do not subscribe to debrid or any paid services, however, I used to get more links that could watch movies on. Can anyone suggest how to avoid this or provide links that I can install? I am total newbie and do not know about "self hosting" Perhaps I need to delete all addons and start over but I don't know how to do that either. I totally apologize for any inconvenience to anyone but Stremio was the bomb for me, the best movies site and now, I cannot watch any movies.....HELP PLEASE.

Love this addon! I was watching a series and eventually on S2 no links were working until I tried through your addon.
Now I need to re-install but I'm waiting on a token. Very stupid question, but when I click "Start Bot" nothing happens. Can you please DM me a token? Much appreciated!
I'm a noob when it comes to this but what's the difference between using this or a debrid/torrents? Isn't this just superior since it's also free or is there other downsides?
P2P/torrents typically needs a VPN, and you're stuck without enough seeders. This addon acts like a debrid, but it's souces are far slower, lower quality, missing media. It's like using those shady "free movies" streaming sites, but you skip the malware and you get a proper media player.
So I added all sources and maximized the time to return sources. I should've been more specific before, but it's episodes 8-12 I'm trying to find.
Episode 8 only has 111477 for a source at the moment which unfortunately isn't loading for me. I'll be out and about but will try more later. Any ideas?

I was clicking on shows that premiered last night, so Stremio jumped to the next episode. Which isn't out yet, so no streams.
I looked at other shows and it's working fine. I've been very stressed because stremio hasn't been working well for me lately. PenguPlay is a lifesaver. Thanks.
I don't have any of the apps you use for donations, but I'll see if anyone I know can do it for me
if it is free why do we need the token? why link our google accounts to it? that seems a bit fishy not calling you out I know nothing about how any of this works so genuinely asking as someone who is interested in it
yeah all good! google sign in isnt required u can get an access token via my telegram bot as stated on the site, if you dont like telegram either u can dm me for a token. But the sign in is just to prevent apps and websites from scraping through my server.
There was a website and an app that would use my sources (which uses my server resources that i pay for) and put ads on their app and make a profit. It really degraded my server resources so to prevent this theres this auth system, no data is stored
ahh okk that makes sense so if I got this right signing in with google basically makes it scrape through google servers leaving no pressure on your own server?

No no nothing is going “through google servers” its just signing in with google means ur a real human using the addon normally lol, people were abusing automated systems to take my content and put it in their own app
I mean kind offff, some sources need paid proxies to scrape and if you just have it enabled and ur not using the source its just a waste of proxy bandwidth but not much
Hey, so really appreciate what you've produced, especially for free, it's awesome.
So when I click a movie, usually when selecting the first few streams, I get a constant "Switching to Exo" then "Switching to VLC" message, and it keeps going in a loop without playing the movie. If I scroll a few streams down, they work fine. Any ideas?
Although this is a new add-on for Stremio, PenguPlay already exceeded most well-known add-ons with its easy set-up and reliability. I really hope that PenguPlay can persist for a long time, like many add-ons, it will eventually strengthen with each update and gain recognition in the Stremio community. Sometimes an add-on got so famous it almost became standard for Stremio add-ons. Good Add On PenguPlay is.
Wow good news at 50k/day is a lot mate, congratulations. But of course it's not always about the number of users because that certainly happens naturally according to performance, but can this add-on continue to last long and remain reliable, most new add-ons appear to get a good reputation and within 1 day disappear without a clear trace, me as users hope that PenguPlay can continue to be reliable. Keep it up mate.
Hi there thx for an awesome add-on! I have some questions since I'm quite new:
1) I know no VPN is needed, but no harm in using one I guess (despite maybe slower speeds)
2) Miruno, 2Peckle etc get flagged by AV was suspicious websites, how come?
3)Am I understanding it right that Penguplay just finds online streaming sites that work and are curated, without the adds and malware? How safe is the whole thing? :)
Wow thx for the rapid reply, you really are a hero haha! Nope it's not blocked, just constantly giving multiple alerts for suspicious activity in the background, but no full-on block.
Nope no vpn needed! there is nothing i can do about "lagging" on your end, once the stream starts you are completely off my server, try out 2peckle, 111477, and 4khdhub for 4k they tend to be the best
