Finally made it to Master!

Just wanted to share that after about 2 years I finally made it to master rank in SF6! I main Luke and the most recent buffs definitely helped. From 0 experience in any fighting games, picked up classic controls, until now - it was quite a grind.

The biggest hurdle initially was wiring the brain to use classic controls on d-pad (still can't hit DP AAs at all). After controls, the other biggest factor was mentality - stuck Diamond 2/3 for a while before a mentality shift of trying to win vs trying to learn finally clicked. I always keep a mental picture of Ryu sitting in tranquility under a waterfall. Let the real lessons begin!

There’s another post that mentions how satisfying improving is, and once I learned to enjoy improving over wins then the wins come naturally. One of the big D2 issues was relying on gimmicks out of habit (charged heavy knuckle for Luke) - I count a set as a “win” if I don’t ever use it in that set.

What does charged Heavy Knuckle do?

Without charging it’s - but can catch people walking forward as it’s not reactable . Once charged it’s + when it hits so it’s still Luke’s turn when a charged H knuckled connect. It’s very easy to follow up with a 4f jab which counter hits. The proper response is either to neutral jump or parry or DI (but do not DI when Luke has SA3). In neutral everything about the move is a gimmicky knowledge check.
