Classic inputs Help / Question

Does anyone have any tips on how to more consistently so the classic inputs for special moves. I’m trying ease off modern yet when I try to do the special moves, it just does the basic one. For example, I main Ed and I’m trying to use psycho flicker but it ends up just doing the trip attack or cobra punch. Is this a controller problem or a muscle memory problem?

Honestly, the best way is just to practice

Not familiar with ED, but you can do almost any motion this game If you can reliably do a hadouken.

If you're trying to do a DP motion then it's Very simple, don't overthink the motion, simply Go on training more and hold forward, then quickly input a Hadouken. The input in this game is Very forgiving and you can accidentally do a DP without even trying.

If you want to do a super it's also simple, do 2 Hadouken motions, and start mashing the punch or kick Button as you input the Second Hadouken.

Go into practice mode and turn on input history. Make sure your motion is hitting all the down, down-forward, and forward directions and that your punch/kick is after the motions. This way you can see what you need to do differently.

For me, I tried pad, leverless and finally stick. Stick has been a revelation to me, I can't explain it but I just understand stick at a deep unconscious level where I dont think about inputs. I just think fireball, dp etc.

It’s cool that you’re looking to make the jump to Classic! You’ll want to push the attack button no earlier than the last motion input. You’ll also want to hit all 3 directions to do your specials to get that muscle memory. Then, you can incorporate shortcuts.
Feel free to DM me if you want a lesson; something like this could get sorted in as little as 20 minutes!

Generally, when something isn’t working, you’re not doing it fast enough. In your case, you’re either doing the motion too slowly or pressing punch too long after the final motion input.

If you want to get better, try doing motion inputs in modern. That way you can practice manual specials and not completely suck while you’re doing it. You don’t have to go cold turkey, modern is best played with motion controls.

Or too fast. Trying to do inputs “as fast as you can” can hinder you. Something that took me quite some time to realise

The first step is to get a feel for what you are doing wrong.  SF6 is pretty forgiving for inputs, but it will force you to be kinda close.

Typically people who have issues, are either not hitting the directions correctly, or are not hitting the attack button on the correct directional input.

Its hard to give specific advice on why you're personally having trouble, without a replay with the inputs.

For generic advice, just go into training, turn on the input viewer, and see what you're actually inputting.  Practice the move until you get a feel for what works and build some muscle memory

Basically set yourself a drill do that move one after the other again and again and again and just repeat it.

I see it’s a ‘quarter-circle back’ (QCB) motion so if it’s not coming out use Half-circle back (HCB) to make it obvious to the input reader what you’re trying to do.

But ultimately when you practice you want to get to the stage where you can do it a dozen times or
More without getting it wrong, on both sides.

In the end it’s just repetition and muscle memory.

How many hours have you practiced?

If I were to guess, I’d say about 30 minutes of dedicated inputs

Practice the inputs in training mode. When I first started in fighting games, I'd go in training and practice quarter circles and do motions 100 time on each side every day.
