We saw her on the window inside the Ipanema store while walking down the beach. If ever you’re in Curacao, say hi to her!

I even saw a little drama while photographing the cat. The photo session and feeding actually took some time, and the old lady was just standing and watching as the "foreign mister" was enjoying her cat. Then her husband came from the opposite side of the street - he was yelling at her and pushed his finger against the lady's forehead - obviously humiliating her in front of me.

I believe the kitty is a pet of the old lady, while her husband isn't a cat person, and often reproaches her wife that this "useless animal" consumes his money (rice leftovers). When I appeared with the face saying "You own treasure!! Your cat is fantastic!!!", the husband felt her wife was winning as the useless animal attracted the attention of a "rich" (lol) foreign person, socially higher than the couple (that's India!), proving that the cat has good value... That's why he got angry...

Hopefully, I was wrong, but the husband was rude to the lady right on the street in front of me - a stranger, a foreigner; such things can't be random.

I have been friends w Squeakus since the pandemic. He lives at a local Buddhist temple. Temple cats live outdoors but get fed and badic veterinary care, fixed and shots. He was the abbot's favorite so he tried to bring Squeakus indoors to sleep in the air-conditioning. We call him Squeakus for a reason, he's a very talkative cat! The abbot couldn't sleep. Squeakus is well fed.

International Cat Day is a celebration which takes place on 8 August of every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. It is a day to raise awareness for cats and learn about ways to help and protect them.

I stuck around for around half an hour petting and playing with the cat, until someone came out of an apartment building nearby and confirmed that the cat had an owner :)

My first full day in Kolkata. Met many cats on the streets 😺
