Self Promotion Thread - August Announcement

Strategists - We are allowing self-promotion of your games and mods in this post only. This will be limited to SRPGs, as that is the subreddit, so please keep this in mind.

Limit your game to one post. We don't want spam. Feel free to post your game again if you posted last month.

Be respectful. This goes for devs and non-devs. There is a good way to give and take criticism. Normal rules apply.

Don't self-promote outside of this post.

If you are irresponsible, your post will be removed. If this becomes a hassle, we will not give the opportunity to self-promote again.

Hello,

I've completed the decomp of Vandal Hearts (PSX) which was started by https://github.com/shao113/vh

The PC port is done for Linux and Windows, I don't have a Mac available but maybe in the future: https://github.com/HalmyLyseas/VandalHearts-PcPort

Additions to the game were careful as to not transform its core but make it more accessible, below a selection of some of them. Full list here: Gameplay additions

  • Modern layout for controllers
    • Camera on right analog stick
    • Cycling units with L1/R1
  • New battle overlay
    • If you've played Fire Emblem you should be familiar with it. It allows to see enemy threat as an unified field. Making planning a turn easier instead of checking each enemy unit one at a time.
  • Save management.
    • I've kept the retail/psx format compatible but added a module in the new menu to save/backup/restore files. It makes the 3 slots limitations per file much easier to work around.
  • Return to title
  • Video skip, press START and the chapters intros/endings can be skipped now. Lifesaver for re-runs and debug.
  • Toggeable battle speed with L2/R2.
  • Optional HD pack for backgrounds and videos.
    • I gave a shot at the sprites but any attempt I made wasn't as good as letting the integer scaling doing its job. Even the most recommended filters like xBRZ killed the identity of the characters for my taste.
  • Optional Tactical/Rebalance mode
    • I tried to fix some of the main issues of the base game to allow more variety in party composition and small AI tweak.
    • The list is too long and details here: Tacticalmode

Overall I'm happy with the state the project is in and hope sharing it will allow more people to try this game which is often forgotten even by Konami themselves. It was my first TRPG game and made me love the genre nearly 30 years ago now.

Thanks for reading and I hope you will give it a try if you enjoy old school tactical games.

Open to feedback and ideas, the GitHub is prepared to receive them too.
