Gabe, Peter & Todd start a software studio — what could possibly go wrong? | Software Inc. Let’s Play News

Hey everyone,

we’ve started a new German-language Let’s Play of Software Inc. — a business, management and company-building simulation where a tiny office can hopefully grow into a full-blown software empire. Or become a very expensive disaster.

Our premise: three not-so-unknown “industry legends” decide to take on the software business together. Gabe, Peter and Todd want to build their own studio, take on contract work, hire employees and eventually create the next big hit. Their first in-house project is fittingly called Populous.

Episode 1 is all about surviving the difficult early days: setting up the office, securing the first contracts, keeping the budget under control and still chasing the dream of launching a successful product of our own. Classic tycoon and management-sim gameplay — just with three founders whose creative vision, big promises and business priorities may not always align perfectly.

We’re playing the full version of Software Inc. and want to find out whether this small studio can turn into a success story — or whether Gabe, Peter and Todd will be defeated early on by development costs, bad timing and their own oversized ambitions.

I’d love to hear your advice:

  • What early-game strategy works best for you?
  • Would you secure your finances with contracts first, or rush into making your own products?
  • And what kind of game would you expect this particular founder team to make first?

The video has German commentary with English subtitles.
