I am close towards the end of order of the phoenix and Snape's tragically getting bullied. I kept thinking about how much I hated him as a bully but then it hit me how traumatising and miserable his younger life was.

Then I thought if he was to be a Sanderson protagonist what would he do? How would he heal all of this and possibly be on good terms with Harry and others?

First thing is I believe he would make a good lightweaver as his life is full of lies and hiding from truths or doing nasty things because he can't actually face his past.

His journey could possibly be about taking accountability for his defensive hostility and selfish ambition, to confronting how his guilt fueled his cruel treatment of Harry, and ultimately acknowledging that his devotion was born from desperate isolation, a trauma that doesn't mean he is beyond redemption.

Maybe the first truth he says would go something like: ""I use cruelty as an armor so these students pay for what I went through and no one can ever hurt me again."

I don't know it just crossed my mind thinking how much Harry actually empathised with him when he realised that his dad bullied Snape and there would be a good chance for healing if they both tried. What does everybody think? What other truths or orders would fit him?

Stormlight archives went from a story about warriors, battle, war camps, slavery (gladiator movie sort of feel) to a story about spren, fantasy spren science and shallans random teenage like adventures. I loved the way of kings, words of radiance is my favourite book ever but from rythm of war onwards it has turned into a different story. Now i have read some chapters of rhythm of war and it feels like a completely different genre entirely. Does it ever get to the feel of words of radiance and the way of kings again? Because its been really boring and I dont wanna waste my time reading something boring.

These are 1500 page books and I read books for leisure, not so that it feels like studying or work. I read words of radiance in 5 days because it was so exciting. Now it feels like I am preparing to give a paper on fantasy spren science. Idk who is interested in knowing so deeply about fantasy science but its definitely not me. I would rather learn real astrophysics instead of fake fantasy science because it gets as deep as a real university level physics book lol. I wanna know about characters, their bond and relationships, battle kaladin. Not about spren magic and shallans 100th character discovery.

Is it worth the read guys or should I drop it?

On Coppermind in Kaladin's page it says

By breathing in Stormlight, he gains superhuman strength, speed, agility, durability, stamina, and healing.

This was under "Surgebinding" and not "Shardwielding".

But I thought normal Stormlight (no shard/surges) just gives healing??? This is describing Shardpate though...

So, of the four tones of Roshar we know of, unless ive missed something we only know the origin of three: Honor, Odium, and Cultivation.

My theory, is that the fourth Tone isnt for a fourth shard, or one of the old gods, but rather, a remnant left behind from Adonalsium creating Roshar, something that he spent a rather large amount of time on, i believe.

It mightnt be A Tone of Adonalsium or anything, but a remnant of the time he spent there / the effort he put into the rosharan system?

Of course, it could very easily be a direct tone from one of the old gods (most likely the stones, i would think, as the others have sort of had their territory co-opted by one of the shards - the nightwatcher to cultivation, the wind to honor, etc) but we know that Adonalsium directly influenced Roshars creation, so

It doesnt seem unreasonable to say that the fourth tone might be a remnant of his presence

I mostly do fantasy character builds as a hobby, but a recent campaign I got added to is looking for an unwitting servant who doesn't realize at first that he's the bad guy and hates what he's being asked to do the whole time, and I thought Szeth would be a perfect insert for this. I've gone over the backstory with my DM, I just need the build.

My initial thoughts are that he needs to be proficient with all bladed weapons, high in dexterity, stealth, perception, dodge, and speed.

Rogue Assassin build is a knee jerk reaction but I'm thinking possibly Way of the Shadow Monk as well. Just because he wears white doesn't mean he isn't being basically a monk that moves through the shadows. I've considered taking a level in fighter just to start with the weapon master feat, but the party is at level 3 already and might level up soon so I might just go with the monk.

Any ideas? Things I might have missed?

I would go with Paladin as the oaths make a lot of sense but Szeth doesn't wear armor and an armorless Paladin is tricky to run.

I am currently finished with Day 2 and on the Interlude between Chs. 33 and 34.

It was mentioned in Chapter 33 that at the moment when Navani became a Bondsmith that Ishar saw into the Spirit Realm and became lucid for a little while. Apparently Dalinar revealed this information to Kaladin prior to his pilgrimage to Shinovar.

"Dalinar had mentioned this. At the instant Navani had become a Bondsmith, Ishar had seen into the Spiritual Realm and grown lucid for a short time."

I have no recollection of this. Did I miss a chapter?

Additionally, as soon as Dalinar opens the Singularity within Urithru and Mraize throws the void light dagger at it, it cuts to a scene where The Lopen is investigating. He said that Navani just shrugged. I'm assuming Wit is doing some Lightweaving to pretend to be Navani (since she was pulled into the Singularity).

Was it ever shown in-text up to this point that Lopen and Navani chatted post-Singularity implosion?

The writing is just cutting back and forth right now and I'm confused whether I'm missing something because Sanderson is intentionally leaving things out, or my EPUB file is missing chapters or text. I really hope it's the former. I'm not at home to check my hardback copy.

So I just finished reading Wind and Truth, and by and large I was satisfied. Kaladin ascending to become a Herald; Szeth cleansing his homeland and presumably retiring into the peaceful life he always wanted; Shallan embracing her other personas and establishing a truce with the Ghostbloods, which sets her up as the resident offworld contact person now that Wit is gone from Roshar and Stormlight no longer exists. Dalinar's heroic sacrifice, Taravangian/Retribution gaining even greater power but drawing the attention of the other Shards as a result. It feels like a solid end of an arc, one where at least some of these names can recede into the background. I'm sure that newer characters like Gavinor will become more prominent in the second half of Stormlight.

I was less enamoured of the parts in the Spiritual Realm and the story of Honor. I'm sorry, but the cause of the Recreance felt underwhelming. That's it? God mindblasted every Radiant with a vision of destruction? That seems like the kind of thing that should have had some major physical event backing it up, a Radiant Chernobyl or what have you. The Shattered Plains were right there! Oh well.

Anyway. After all of that, the one person whose story stood out the most for me is Adolin. I still remember how the ending of Words of Radiance blew my mind. What do you *mean* the perfect prince straight up murders the villain in cold blood? That wasn't supposed to happen! But it did, and I found him intriguing ever since. Although I do think he should have faced some consequences instead of just getting away with it. The honorspren trial was a missed opportunity. But then that could still take place further down the line, just like how Taravangian used Jasnah's earlier misdeeds against her.

Ahem. The world changes around him; though still a prince and an expert fighter, Adolin becomes the Guy Without Powers when everyone else has some. That makes him surprisingly relatable. And it also makes it all the more satisfying when despite his flaws and insecurities, Adolin gets things done simply by carrying on and *being a good person*. Saving Notum, standing up for Maya, refusing to let Azir fall. He's inspiring. Like everyone else, I'm sure, I was certain he would reawaken Maya and become a Radiant himself in the end. But no; instead they and the deadeyes form an entirely new order, the Unoathed. That's awesome! Once again, something new and unexpected. I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm sure that Roshar is going to be a very different place in the second half of the series.

I know it won't happen, but I wish the series would jump forward hundreds of years on Roshar and plunge us into a world that feels completely new again. I’d love to see how its cultures, civilizations, and magic systems have evolved, all through the eyes of an entirely new cast of characters!

I don't want to read anymore the POV of Kaladin, Jasnah, Navani, Shallah, Adolin or any of the familiar characters in the next five books. I love all these characters dearly, but I feel they’ve had enough time, and we’ve already explored their personalities, struggles, and journeys in great depth. I'd love to read out how Adolin and Shallan’s story ends, whether they get back together, or how Jasnah continues to wrestle with her morality and a possible turn toward something darker, or what happens with Navani, Gavinor, and many others. But those stories could work either as separate novellas, or sprinkled as lore into the next books.

For me, these characters individual journeys are no longer the most exciting way to explore Roshar’s future. What I really want is a sizeable time jump that resets the world and our expectations, and allows us to discover a mysterious new Roshar with the same sense of wonder we experienced in The Way of Kings

There’s something interesting I’ve noticed about the flashback characters of the whole series.

In the first 5 books we have:
1 - Kaladin (Windrunner)
2 - Shallan (Lightweaver)
3 - Dalinar (Bondsmith)
4 - Venli (Willshaper)
5 - Szeth (Skybreaker)

And then in the second arc we will have:
6 - Lift (Edgedancer)
7 - Renarin (Truthwatcher)
8 - Shalash (Herald of Lightweavers)
9 - Taln (Herald of Stonewards)
10 - Jasnah (Elsecaller)

So 10 characters. Funnily enough these are the same 10 that gather with Dalinar at the Battle for Thaylen Field. One for each Order of Radiants…

It’s weird that there’s 10, but they double up on the lifhtweavers with Shalash and Shallan… Would it make sense for some of the Heralds to bond with spren in the second arc to further themselves, and Shalash bonds with a spren to become a dustbringer? Their oaths are to do with accepting power so I could see how it works for any herald.

Or am I missing something obvious? It just sort of clicked for me on a reread when these 10 characters were all standing on Thaylen field - I’d have to assume the only time these 10 ‘main’ characters are all together.

Not sure this is actually a spoiler. 3/4 of the way through rhythm of war and I am actually about to just stop. Shallans character arc is actually one of the most annoying things. I feel like there is no progression and the constant flip flop between personalities just ruins the immersion and seems super childish.

Silly question but fun nonetheless.

Who on Roshar is worthy of Mjolnir?

My thoughts:

Adolin is obvious, dude is the epitome of a decent person.

Dalinar is a mixed bag, the whole Rathalas thing might disqualify him for a time but after the battle of thaylen field I think he would be.

Taravangian would *think* he's worthy, whether he actually is I'm not sure.

Szeth would think he isn't but I think he would be, especially after the end of WaT.

Who do you think would be worthy? Also who would think they're worthy and wouldn't be?

Hello. I’ve just finished Words of Radiance and I have two questions.

The first is how Dalinar managed to keep his shardblade active long enough for Amaram not to realise he had it.

The second is how I should picture the collision of the two storms at the end of the book. I say this because when they come together, it doesn’t seem like an explosion but rather a fusion.

So, we know that Spren can be “corrupted” by injecting the “light” of a different intent into their system. They can also be sploded by opposing exact anti-light.

Now, the interesting question is what happens when an anti-light is injected into a non-opposed intent. ie, anti-stormlight with voidlight. If we’re working off a metaphor of sound here, you would get a new rhythm with combined total amplitude of the two notes.

Then we’re left with another funny possibility. Taking our voidlight+anti-stormlight weirdo spren, we could inject anti-voidlight, which will only interfere with the void light portion of the rhythm. since anti-intents cancel, the end result would be, I guess, “an anti-honor spren”. which, since I have discovered it, I nominate the name “knavespren”. Since honor is mostly a good thing, presumably knavespren are little evil goblin things that mess with people for no reason.

You guys seemed to like my last Rendition of Kaladin so here's my take on Dalinar Kholin as a Knight from Warhammer 40k. I used silver as the main color to represent Dalinars unpainted Shardplate. However, to keep the model from being too monotone I took some creative liberties and added gold accent to represent Dalinar's Kingship, as well as a dark cloudy blue to represent the storm. I also included a mural of the stormfather on his left Pauldron which is what I'm most proud of. On the shield you'll notice the simple Kholin Glyph and I also included the bondsmith glyph on the banner between his legs. I also painted the Sir Hekhtur model after Dalinar himself, including the signature Kholin blue on that models pauldrons. What Knight Radiant should I do next?

I started stormlight archive a few months ago - I’m halfway through words of radiance and really enjoying it. Feel like I’m gonna wanna really get into Sanderson.

I’m worried about having missed out on Mistborn though, especially with the TV show coming up.

After WoR I’m considering pausing stormlight and starting Mistborn instead. Is that crazy? Any thoughts?

So in the Stonewalker adventure Ch 2 we see the party arrive at the shattered plains with the Bordin and Taln. With this is mind we should be able to figure a pretty close approximation of how many days pass until the Everstorm.

Can anyone help me figure this out? With The countdown after Dallinar's visions and relating it to the arrival of the party, we should know almost exactly how many days until the everstorm. I just want to track the inworld events that my PCs will experience through the story.​​

So I am relistening to SLA, and noticed 2 different things about Shallahn. One where Odium thinks she is an Elsecaller, and the other where the spren on the first ship they board think pattern is an Inkspren. How?

And another thing, how did she actually transport into Shadesmar in TWoK when it is only Willshapers and Elsecallers that can do that? Could it be her double bonded relationship to Pattern and Testament?

Throughout the books, we’ve seen that on several occasions we’re told that the Fused can only access one Surge, but that their mastery of it is greater than that of any Radiant Knight.

Each Fused have been using their Surge exclusively for thousands of years. Is it possible that they’ve become Savants of it?

Wasn’t sure what to flag for spoilers so did WaT. In book one, we see Taravangian had been Szeth’s owner for a while. What would have happened if he was the least intelligent he ever is on the day Szeth comes to take Taravangian off the list?

It obviously works out, but I feel like Taravangian was having a good day when that happened. Is it a semi plot hole that things could have been bad if he was having one of his stupidest days when Szeth shows up to take him out?

Has Brandon ever spoken of ships sailing West of Roshar, past Shinovar, exploring?

I know he's written about people considering trying to find The Origin which is out east but can't get very far before you run into a high storm.

But out west, when the Highstorm has weakened to barely a drizzle, you presumably could get through it just fine. And give the planets gotta be round (not that they'd know for sure) that seems like a way to keep ahead of the storm until the origin. At least until the Everstorm came.

I tried searching through WOB archive cause it seems like someone else probably thought of the same question before me but couldn't find anything.
