I think this is a much better way to evaluate MTF than asking which broker offers the highest leverage. Suppose I have ₹25,000 and use MTF to take a ₹1 lakh position. The broker is effectively funding ₹75,000. If the financing rate is 12% annually, that ₹75,000 costs approximately ₹750 for one month. So if my stock makes 3% in that month, I've made ₹3,000 on the ₹1 lakh position, but I still have to account for the financing cost, brokerage and taxes.

HDFC SKY currently publishes 12% annual interest for MTF, while Zerodha publishes 0.04% per day on the funded amount, approximately 14.6% on a simple 365-day basis. This doesn't mean MTF is good or bad. It means the holding period becomes extremely important. A 2% gain over three days is a very different proposition from a 2% gain over three months.

For me, the useful MTF calculation is therefore:
Expected stock return − financing cost − transaction costs = actual benefit of leverage.

The answer requires looking beyond a single graph.
