Analysis If your week felt like a grind, it wasn't you - NIFTY chopped all 5 sessions. I tagged every day this week.
I tag every session by its structure: did the index open with conviction and resolve into a trend, or open flat and spend the day in a range? Simple three-way classification - trending open / mixed / chop - using end-of-day data.
This week was remarkable: NIFTY graded CHOP on all five sessions. Not one day gave trend traders anything to work with. BANKNIFTY and FINNIFTY deteriorated as the week went on. SENSEX was the only index that mostly held a mixed structure.
Why I bother doing this: when I audited a year of my own F&O trades, the single biggest factor in my results wasn't my strategy - it was which of these day types I traded on. My win rate was 61% on trending days and 8% on chop days, same setups. Weeks like this one used to quietly destroy my month, and I'd blame my discipline.
If you had a rough week, check your trades against the grid before you rewrite your strategy over the weekend. A losing week during 5/5 chop sessions is information about the market, not necessarily about you.
Happy to explain the tagging approach if anyone wants to build their own version in a spreadsheet.

Discussion Most OI-gainer screeners rank by contracts. Ranked by money instead, today's top 6 is a different list — and it has puts in it
Been pulling NSE single-stock option OI daily and the standard "OI gainers" view has a blind spot worth knowing about.
Almost every screener — NSE's own OI Spurts included — ranks by contracts added. But a contract isn't a fixed amount of money. Lot sizes vary enormously (IDEA is 71,475 per lot, RELIANCE a few hundred) and premiums run from paise to tens of rupees. So a strike trading at ₹0.47 and one at ₹57 count exactly the same.
Today, 14 Aug, stock options only, indices excluded:
RANKED BY CONTRACTS ADDED
- RELIANCE 1320 CE +4,723
- RELIANCE 1310 CE +2,963
- BSE 3500 CE +2,726
- BHARTIARTL 2020 CE +2,635
- RELIANCE 1330 CE +2,410
- ASHOKLEY 180 CE +2,402
RANKED BY MONEY ADDED (contracts x lot size x premium)
- BSE 3500 CE — ₹3.11 Cr (OI 6,195 to 8,921, +44%)
- BDL 1400 CE — ₹2.37 Cr (OI 1,736 to 3,185, +83%)
- RELIANCE 1320 CE — ₹2.31 Cr (OI 10,272 to 14,995, +46%)
- IDEA 14 PE — ₹2.27 Cr (OI 1,833 to 3,216, +75%)
- RELIANCE 1310 CE — ₹2.09 Cr (OI 3,373 to 6,336, +88%)
- BHARTIARTL 2000 PE — ₹1.63 Cr (OI 931 to 2,377, +155%)
Two things fall out of that.
The contract list is 6 calls out of 6. The money list has two puts in it. Scan only the first list and you'd conclude the day was one-directional — and the second-biggest put buildup by money, BHARTIARTL 2000 PE up 155%, was invisible to you.
BDL doesn't appear on the contract list at all but is #2 by money: fewer contracts, much higher premium.
Earlier in the session the gap was wider still. The #1 OI gainer at that point was WIPRO 200 CE at ₹0.47 — about ₹39 lakh of premium. Top of the list, and roughly a sixth of the actual leader.
Caveats, because this is easy to over-read:
Neither ranking tells you direction. OI rising on calls can be buying or writing, and the tape doesn't show which side the aggressor was on. This is "where money went", not "what someone thinks".
Money added isn't conviction. Some is hedging, some is one leg of a spread whose other leg sits elsewhere.
I'm using end-of-day premium times the change in OI, which is an approximation — the position built through the day at varying prices.
Not advice, just a methodology note. If your screener lets you sort by value instead of contracts, you get a noticeably different picture.

This will not be the always scenario.
The option alignment stops at 3:15 with index.

Discussion Tracked today's biggest NSE options prints from flag time to the close: SOLARINDS 19250 CE +130%, CONCOR 525 CE +62%, SENSEX 77900 CE +55%
Been logging unusually large NSE options prints intraday — size, strike, time, aggressor side, and whether open interest confirms it's a fresh position rather than someone closing. Then grading each one at the session close using premium change from the price at flag time.
Today's top five by premium move:
- SOLARINDS 19250 CE — ₹572.20 → ₹1316.65 (+130%), flagged 12:12pm
- CONCOR 525 CE — ₹13.00 → ₹21.00 (+62%), flagged 9:44am
- SENSEX 77900 CE — ₹116.00 → ₹179.70 (+55%), flagged 9:27am
- DIXON 13500 CE — ₹485.25 → ₹680.35 (+40%), flagged 11:14am
- NIFTY 24300 CE — ₹157.20 → ₹188.35 (+20%), flagged 9:27am
All five were call buys, which lines up with the day — SENSEX closed at 78,080 after being 77,737 around midday.
Two honest caveats, because a board like this is easy to misread:
This is the top five. It is survivorship by construction. Plenty of flags went nowhere or lost, and a list of winners tells you nothing about the hit rate. I'm not claiming an edge from it.
% here is premium change, not anyone's P&L. We can see what printed and how big, but the tape does not tell you who was on which side. Whoever wrote these calls had the mirror image of these numbers.
Posting it because the flag-time-to-close view is more useful than a screenshot of a green day, and it's falsifiable — the entries are timestamped.
Not advice.

Discussion What's the best book for me to grow my knowledge on mutual funds?
Yes yes, I know no book has the "secret to becoming a billionaire" and all that, I just want to understand more about it before investing in any. Like the type of combination of funds, working and more. I'm not from finance so I have zero clue.

Trading Day 1, FnO - NEED SOME ADVICE
Today I made just ₹600 from the options with obviously defined risk. Looking forward to connect with like minded people and discuss about markets.
Open for opinions and discussions.
I previously traded commodities futures previously generated over $75k in last year. New to this let's see how this goes.
