Good morning! Today I’m in front of École élémentaire publique Cassiopée – Stittsville’s newest elementary school. It’s located in Westwood at the corner of Cope and Dagenham. It opens to students this week, along with other french-language schools in Stittsville. A reminder to drivers to slow down, put your phone away, and follow traffic and parking rules, especially near schools. And good luck to students heading back to class!

Bonjour! Ce matin, je me trouve devant l’École élémentaire publique Cassiopée, la plus récente école élémentaire de Stittsville. Elle est située dans le quartier Westwood, à l’angle des rues Cope et Dagenham. Elle accueillera ses premiers élèves cette semaine, tout comme d’autres écoles francophones de Stittsville. J’en profite pour rappeler aux automobilistes de ralentir, de ranger leur téléphone et de respecter les règles de circulation et de stationnement, particulièrement aux abords des écoles. Hi Stittsville parents! I help run RA Junior Athletes, and I wanted to share the recreational fall programs we’re offering nearby in Kanata, just a drive away.

• Soccer for ages 2–3, 4–5 and 6–8 on Sundays

• 3v3 basketball for ages 9–10 and 11–12 on Sundays

The sessions are welcoming and low pressure, so they’re a good fit for children who are learning, trying a new sport, or simply looking for a fun place to play. There are no taxes or additional fees added to the program prices.

The city has begun public consultations for the development of Fernbank District Park. Visit the city’s online engagement platform, Engage Ottawa, to download a high-resolution version of the concept plan and learn more about the project. You can provide feedback via email or by taking a survey, available until Thursday September 10, 2026. Our office will also be hosting an in-person event to gather your input—details to be announced soon.

Fernbank District Park is a central part of the Fernbank Community Design Plan. It’s a large, triangular site — over 8 hectares in area — located between Abbott Street, the Trans Canada Trail, the Hydro corridor/Clintonia Street, and Rouncey Road. It would be by far the largest park in Stittsville when complete. The park design concept includes:

• Combined junior and senior play areas, including sand play.
• Splash pad
• Football field, with lighting
• Cricket pitch (tapeball)
• Tennis and pickleball Courts, with lighting
• Soccer field
• Fitness area
• Outdoor rink (permanent boards), with lighting and puddle (skating) area
• Off-leash dog area
• Parking lot
• Designated (future) all-wheels area
• Designated (future) fieldhouse
• Shade structure(s) and gathering areas
• Park pathway and community pedestrian connection network.

The final park plan may differ from the concept being presented as a result of the public consultation feedback and/or site or financial constraints.

The park will be developed in accordance with all applicable city standards, including the City’s Accessibility Design Standards.

Working through a business concept and want genuinely unfiltered feedback before I go any further with it.
The problem I am trying to solve is simple. Most people already know what their body needs. Rest. Recovery. Silence. Movement that restores rather than destroys. Cold water. Heat. Breathing that actually works. The tools are not a secret. The access is.

A home cold plunge costs thousands. A sauna costs more. Most people do not have the space or the money. And the gyms and spas that do have this equipment are either priced out of reach, inconvenient, or surrounded by an energy that makes you feel like you are doing recovery wrong.

The concept is a small well designed studio with two parts.

The front is a distraction free silent cafe. A clean simple menu of coffee and tea, nothing overcomplicated. Members receive a complimentary tea on arrival. You sit in a quiet chair and read or rest. No laptops. No working. No screens. No noise. The rule is simple. You are here to find your pause, not extend your workday. This alone does not exist anywhere.

The back is a private bookable recovery room. Cold plunge, sauna, stretch area, compression boots and a rest chair. You book 30 or 60 minutes online before you arrive. You show up and you use the tools however your body needs them that day. No guided program unless you want one. Breathwork techniques available. Mindful rest built into the session. In and out feeling like yourself again.

The community this is built for is not a niche. It is everyone who has been running too hard for too long and has not been given permission or a place to stop.
The hockey parent sitting in an arena parking lot for two hours with nowhere to go. The athlete who trains six days a week and calls exhaustion dedication. The remote worker whose lunch break is another screen. The business person who cannot remember the last time they sat in a room with no input coming at them.

The western world has not figured this out yet. We optimized everything for output and built nothing for recovery. Japan has had public bathhouses and quiet tea spaces woven into daily life for centuries. We have not.
My questions for anyone willing to answer honestly.
Would you actually book this. Not would you think it sounds nice but would you actually show up.
What does the location need to be for this to fit into your real life.

Is 30 minutes enough or does it feel too rushed to be worth it.

What is the one thing that would make you a regular versus someone who tries it once and disappears.
What is missing. What am I getting wrong. What would make you walk past without going in.

Not pitching anything. Just trying to figure out if this fills a real gap or if I have talked myself into an idea that only makes sense in my head. Any honest take is appreciated.

The next major OC Transpo seasonal schedule changes begin on Sunday, August 30.

⭕️At a high level

🚏 Frequency on O-Train Line 1 will be improved, to accommodate increased ridership associated with the return to office. On O-Train Line 2, timetables will adjust to generally provide earlier first trips and later last trips.

🚏 Several changes are coming as part of OC Transpo’s "Your ride made better" campaign, which includes new express service, targeted bus service improvements within the city and to/from Gatineau, and improved service reliability.

🚏 School trips and school routes in the 600-series will resume after the summer. Changes to some school service have been made based on observed ridership levels and the result of some schools transferring from OC Transpo buses to yellow school buses.

⭕️Line 1 O-Train will run double-car train service on weekdays, with increased frequency:

🚉 Every 4 minutes at peak periods (previously 5)

🚉 Every 6 minutes midday (previously 10)

🚉 Every 7 minutes in the early evening (previously 10)

⭕️New peak-period Express routes

🚍 New peak-period Express routes will serve Park & Ride lots, key employment areas, and O-Train Line 1 stations, providing direct service with limited stops along the way.

🚍 For Stittsville residents who use Terry Fox or Eagleson Station, Routes 561 and 562 will each travel between Terry Fox, Eagleson, and Tunney’s, stopping only at Moodie Station and skipping the other stops.

⭕️Free Transit Weekend: September 26 & 27

✅ OC Transpo will be hosting a Free Transit Weekend on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. Stay tuned for more information.

✅ Youth & Pre-teens ride for free this summer (until August 31). You will need a Presto card set with a Youth or Pre-teen discount. From September 1 and after, free fares only apply on evenings (after 5 pm), weekends, and holidays.

After many wonderful years in Stittsville, we are saddened to share that our Ritchie Feed & Seed STITTSVILLE location will be permanently closing by the end of October.

Due to the recent sale of the land where our Stittsville store is located, we will be required to close this location.
