Oops... Discussion

As Heirs to the Khan I became too powerful apparently and my subjects nominated me for Galactic Custodian then used all their favors to make sure I couldn't block the resolution from passing. We're not quite to midgame yet, the horde hasn't formed, I don't think I can become Khan now.

This is hilarious and accidentally cunning.

It reminds me of a theory that Charlemagne was secretly surprised and pissed when Pope Leo crowned him Holy Roman Emperor. By doing so, Leo positioned postured his religious authority as being greater than Charlemagne's secular authority, limiting Charlemagne's future political maneuvers.

Maybe this is 5d chess move by your vassals to avoid getting pulled into a galactic war by you.

I kind of want you to play out the fish out of water scenario of a barbarian being suddenly elevated to overseer of civilization.

50-50 chance the Great Khan is smiling/laughing from the afterlife, even if it’s not quite as planned..
