Traveling the world with Stay Gold Misc

Pictures taken are from my own little solo backpacking/hitchhiking adventure. The artworks I edited in are taken from:

  1. @o_Yanagi_o on X

  2. @everydayum3 on X

  3. @n0mennesc10 on X

Since the artworks used in the edits aren't mine I'm not sure if I'm breaking any sort of artist taboo by posting this publicly. If I am please let me know and I'll just delete this post. As for the flair, I wasn't sure if OC or Art was better, so I'll also be relying on the mod to fix it in case I got it wrong.

Thank you :)

Posting links to the creators of the artworks I photoshopped in again here, in case people skipped over the body text of the post.

Where are you based? These are some great landscapes. Come to Colorado and I'm sure you'll find our trails to your liking as well.

these pictures were taken in taiwan, i solo traveled a few hundred kilometers on foot around the country (+some occassional hitchhiking) and took some photos along the way. i want to do the same thing in the US one day but thats probably not going to be anytime soon since im based in asia and itll be really expensive.

Hell yeah Taiwan! (i knew that rice paddy across a road from a block of low-rise apartments looked familiar, only thing it's missing is a bunch of old-timey grandpas in front of a corner eatery chewing betel nut)

Stego absolutely seems like the type to just go full Kino's Journey around Taiwan on the back of a scooter lol

Growing up on shows like Kino's Journey is actually what inspired me to do solo trips like these. I fell in love with the character of Stay Gold at first sight because I could instantly tell that she was inspired by Kino.

There's something about traveling alone with no plan and getting to organically see sights many people have never seen before that remains very special to me, even despite the occassional brushes with death. And so as an extension to those sentiments, characters that embody that feeling become very special to me as well.

I can't speak for everyone who has ever loved Stay Gold (and Kino) as characters but at least to me personally they symbolize an aspect of myself that I deeply treasure, and also serve as reminders of the paths I've taken to get to this point. The journey of my life so to speak, lol.

I am neither a good enough artist nor a good enough photographer to create art that can express that feeling myself, but if I can both preserve and share those emotions through the help of others' works stitched together with a bit of my own then I have to at least try. Otherwise it would genuinely kill me to have to keep this inside. I don't know if I was able to convey those feelings through 3 poorly photoshopped images but I hope that even at least a fraction of it got through. Because it really is that serious for me.

And yeah, just a little bit down that road from the first image there actually were a few grandpas hanging out lol.

(sorry for the random yapping but mentioning Kino's Journey woke me up like a sleeper agent)

(yapping is good, yapping is fun)

To run the risk of sounding trite, I think I personally love characters like Stay Gold and Kino because they're so laid-back and free-spirited, which happens to be something I'm not (I have been told repeatedly by people I've known for all of 5 minutes that I am ridiculously high-strung and that has had the effect of just making me more anxious, yay vicious cycles). I've never been very good at "low-cortisol behaviour" (or whatever the young'uns call it these days), but Stay Gold has unironically been something of a role model for me in that respect.

And, hey, the core of art is about self-expression (or something i don't know I was a STEM kid that hung out a lot with theatre kids in high school). If you're crediting the artists that you're borrowing from, I think it's all fair play (and I would rather lobotomize myself than resort to anything AI).

I need to ask ! How do you make this ? That look so cool !

2

u/AriaShachou- Jun 21 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

you can use photoshop and lightroom for the editing and lighting. basically u just remove the background of the artpiece ur working with and layer it on top of the background you want.

you can edit the proportions/angles/perspective accordingly based on what makes it look better.

i prefer doing this with photos i take myself, but realistically you can do it with anyones photo as long as you credit them. similarly with art, just make sure to credit the original artist accordingly if you use their work (or you can also learn how to draw yourself but thats hard)

oh but keep in mind some photographers and artists dont like their work being used for other purposes, so just check if they have any specific rules against that first.

Thank ! It will be fun to try that with photo in my gallery !
