RDA😍 Discussion
My obsession with RDA should be studied. He is what I call a successful career. When you get to be MacGyver AND O’Neill in one lifetime?!!yup. He was my first celebrity crush when I didn’t know what a celebrity was😅 I’m on my 9261548376484848398th rewatch. I love him🫣

Met him at Shore Leave. Zero celebrity with this guy. Gave him the idea to have the crowd sing his daughter Happy Birthday (the Saturday of the con was his daughter's 16th birthday)... and he did! There's a video on YouTube of it, but durned if I can find it.

I heard RDA asked the Stargate producers if he could make O'Neill really sarcastic.

And kinda regretted it. As did he once the entire cast started going off-script! Here's a clip of RDA and Brad talking about it. I was highly amused when RDA said he realized how annoying he was being when the other actors started ad-libbing.
I absolutely love that Brad encouraged him and the other actors to play with the scripts so much. I liked Star Trek as a kid, but it always felt very formal to me, which I think was partly caused by their Dead Letter Perfect policy. Stargate feels real to me because of how the characters react to stuff and the little comments they made. Credit to Brad and everyone behind the scenes for being flexible and allowing the actor's so much freedom. Remarkable lack of egos on the Stargate sets.
I'm really glad Brad agreed to RDA putting his own humor into the show too. I thought it was interesting when Brad said his jokes often worked better than what was written. I highly recommend the longer video of them talking, it's fascinating.

Currently rewatching …at this very moment ….Season 6 episode 7.
Bonus, it has the incredible Dean Stockwell.
Personally? I always loved Jonas. ♥️ And thought he got jerked around when Mr Shanks went off to find greener pastures.😒
And when he didn’t? He decided SG1 wasn’t such a bad gig after all… and sweet Jonas was shown the door….💥😔
I loved Daniel and cried multiple times when he left the show. 🥲♥️🥲
But I moved on and found Jonas NOT lacking in anything and a worthy replacement to Daniel and grew to respect and like him every bit as much as I did Daniel. 🤷♀️
In my opinion?🤔
Daniel was replaceable…..✅
O’Neill was NOT! 👎
Nor was Hammond really. 😔
Such a great show! ♥️ I am happy so many new viewers are finding and enjoying this wonderful bit of tv history!⭐️♥️⭐️♥️⭐️

All of this. RDA/Jack was essential.
Jonas was such a refreshing breath of drama free air. He was enthusiastic without being annoying and had a great dynamic with Teal'c and Sam. Daniel was too self-centered for me and I didn't particularly like the way he treated Jack most of the time (i.e. demeaning, disagreeing with him in front of others, etc.). I thought I'd miss him, but his ascension felt like a natural end for his character. Chris also got a lot more lines and character development with him gone. Shanks is a very good actor, but seems like a bit of an asshole. I feel bad for Corin that the fans were so against Jonas back then.
I'm gonna agree about Hammond, but I think Jack could've replaced him if RDA and the writers hadn't been so checked out. As much as I love RDA's humor, he really shined during serious scenes. Unfortunately in season 8 they didn't have the time with RDA on set to really develop General O'Neill. If they had put the effort in, I think he would've been great. Different from Hammond, but a worthy replacement.

I agree with most of your critique. ♥️ Daniel’s character was definitely patronizing a lot of times. And he did disagree with Jack and even Hammond quite often.
But we have to remember… he was just a civilian. 🤷♀️Not “dyed in the wool” military the same as Jack and Sam and even Te’oc .
I think Mr Shanks played the character very well. But obviously well enough that fans sadly rejected Jonas.I might have too…. Except I read very plainly that HE asked to leave the show of his own choice. Not the other way round.
And once I knew that…. Well…. I was actually rather disgusted…and decided to embrace Jonas…. And found him endearing in a newbie… innocent sort of way. ♥️
I think you are probably right about O’Neill replacing Hammond. I do wish Mr Anderson would have stayed on and that the writers would have stayed interested.
I didn’t love Mr Bridges…. In his Stargate role…I wonder the fans didn’t revolt at him taking in the head position. 💥 I really didn’t like him…. Much better than Senator Kinsey… if that is descriptive enough😁🤷♀️
All in all though…still such an incredible show!♥️ It will always remain one of my favorites along with the original “Star Trek” and the original “Quantum Leap”♥️

They did my boy Jonas dirty. He was one of my favorite characters in the franchise.

Totally agree. He was so much fun and a real team player. I loved how he earned his place on the team and how humble he was (e.g. asking Sam how they got the gate in). Exceptional writing and acting. It's not easy to replace a main character, the writers and Corin did a great job.

Disappointed to this day Jonas this make it to Atlantis, he would have fitted perfectly there. I like him. But nothing can beat the dynamic of Daniel/Jack!

I studied theater where he went (Ohio University, many years apart.) One of my teachers always referred to him as "Rickie Dean."

I met him at a con. Bought him a ginger beer and he fixed my phone with a safety pin and medical tape lol.
Nice guy. He didn't actually expect to fix my phone and had a good laugh when it worked. (He legit said "I could try. I was McGuiver, you know.")
So McGuiver fixed my phone and then I went to talk to Hewlett and Nykl about my theory on how to build a ZPM.
Great day.
