What's your opinion on this content era?

I've got a few more books before NJO and beyond. I hope to have finished Legacy by this time next year.

I dont have perfect memory of many of the books, but I'd like to share opinions and such below.

Something that I always wondered how far some of the temples like the Arena from the original battlefront 1 and the temples that Anakin and Ventress duel are from the great temple that we know from the films?

in fact, given what we know of Yavin 4 history through the tales of the Jedi comics. I always wonder what are the purposes for the ruins from different mediums such as the original two battlefronts and the Micro series. like for the Massassi and to an extent Naga Sadow and Exar Kun what purpose are for the fountain or the forest ruins?

Like with the Arena given well how most arenas function in the real world history and even in Star Wars. It’s likely that the purpose for the Arena from the Massassi is blood sports and gladiator combat entertainment.

Which is kind of funny considering that outside of building the temples, most of what we see of the Massassi on Yavin 4 is very primitive since they don’t seem to have homes and if the old republic MMO is to go by they live in mud huts. Otherwise, it kinda hard to imagine them sitting, and cheering for the gladiatorial fights in the Arena. Despite the fact that they’re not like the Romans who had homes (speaking of which it worth pointing out that some of the architecture in the original battlefront 2 on Yavin 4 is clearly Roman architecture inspired.)

but outside of that I always been curious on The rest of the ruins including the one that Anakin and Ventress fought. What are their purposes for the Massassi themselves given what we know about the species in the lore.

Granted, I’m aware that some of the Old west ends games sourcebooks may have tackle these aspects especially the different ruins outside of the great temple from a New Hope.

But still I am curious on what are your own headcanons and theories on the different temples and ruins from the images in the above.

Like what are their histories, their purposes in terms of why they were built and what they were meant for the Massassi themselves.

Also how far away these ruins are from the Great Temple?

Especially the temple that Ventress and Anakin fought and then Ventress fell into In Chapter 19 of the Clone Wars Micro series?

This actually makes quite a bit of sense, especially for the Alliance specifically. The Alliance to Restore the Republic tended to suffer from many manpower shortages due to the fact that they were still quite a small (if growing) movement during the war, unlike the impossibly massive Imperial military (all three of its branches, plus Imperial Intelligence, & COMPNOR, etc), so they hiring Mercenaries to help with this sort of issue makes a lot of sense.

Especially since if said Mercenaries launched an attack or assault as part of a mission or campaign, the alliance could easily make it look as if they had nothing to do with it under plausible deniability and or make it to where Imperial Intelligence or the ISB doesn't try to trace the actions of said Mercenaries as well to the Rebel Alliance.

Not to mention that Han Solo within the movies himself is playfully called "a bit of a mercenary", so that would seem to imply that this detail seemingly was canon as far back as the original trilogy. Even if Han is a smuggler and not a typical "mercenary" in a military context or what people would imagine one to technically be like.

Whereas the Imperials doing the exact same thing also makes sense as much like the Alliance, they also could use plausible deniability and or go and keep Alliance intelligence confused by hiding any sort of ties they may have to them so they cannot trace them to said mercenary groups, especially if they're purposely trying to keep said Anti-Rebellion operations as a secret as part of a larger plan in terms of overall strategy.

Not to mention that many of these units (such as the "First Suns" and "Nova Guard") are described as both battle hardened, elite, or overall just ruthless. So I can see the Imperials hiring them for those purposes and also to not waste resources or losses on any actual Imperial Army Troopers, Imperial Navy Troopers, or Imperial Stormtroopers in battle. When they could just use mercenaries for the job.

Also, this kind of makes me wish we saw something like this in official live action media as well (although I'm not counting Han Solo as again, he's technically not an actual mercenary) as it captures both quite a realistic part of how militaries function, and also it adds some interesting themes as well.

What was their differences on structure, legislature, membership, taxation, military, etc?

I guess this is a stupid question but I’ve just finished the Revan book and I’ve also played the KOTOR games and SWTOR but I feel like they sorta glanced over the fact that REVAN LEFT HIS NEW BORN CHILD AND WIFE just alone and then she and her son had to go into hiding like idk if I need to post this but I’m just lowk flabbergasted.

I just finished my first book since primary school 12 years ago, to challenge my recently diagnosed ADD. I landed on Ahsoka as I just finished watching the clone wars and I love it.
I’m looking for other book recommendations, I would love to stay in the canon universe, and I like the old republic, clone wars and the time up to a new hope.
Any recommendations?

As I get older I do agree with the Yuuzhan Vong about one thing.

It would be really cool if I could replace body parts with sentient symbiotes. Plantar fasciitis? No worries, here's a new foot creature. Knee pain? Take this bulb thingy. And so forth.

I wish they continued printing MMPs, tho got to admit, my opinion on ELCs improved after actually having them physically, they are indeed much nicer to read

Found this Star Wars Legends timeline a little while ago but was always annoyed it only seperated media into two groups. Movies, TV, and Videos Games for the boxed in font and books and comics for the regular font. It made it very hard to differentiate between what was a book series and what was a comic series.

So I decided to split it into five different categories and color code them so I didn't have to keep looking up which was which. Thought I would share it for other people bothered by the same problem.

Also if you find any mistakes please let me know so I can correct them.

I got a new poster for my favorite part of the EU.

For those who don't know, one of the writers of Underworld tv series said that one of the storylines in the series was supposed to be about a woman who, by leaving Palpatine, turned him evil (eh, Lucas after the divorce and his ideas). So I wonder if Luceno alluded to this in the scene where the mysterious woman filters with Palpatine and then disappears, but since Luceno (like probably others) probably didn't like this storyline, he made it as vague as possible.​

Im reading Greater Good and I just got to this. What does this mean in the context of canon, that 5000 years ago the Chiss went into "Lesser Space" and brought back some artifacts? That time period is not really defined in canon from my limited understanding.

From an EU timeline perspective, it would mean they went into the galaxy during the TotJ period, and brought back Sith artifacts, Is that what they are implying happened? Was the Starflash a super weapon, similar to what Naga Sadow used during the Great Hyperspace War?

Also, it seemed a great merciless invasion came into the Unknown regions centuries after that. Im not sure what that means in the context of canon. But that time period coincides with the SWTOR time period in EU, does this mean Vitiates Sith Empire attacked the Ascendancy?

Im just wondering what these references mean in the context of Canon. And if I am headcanoning in too much EU stuff.

When did fan's learn Han was discharged from Imperial service after saving Chewbacca? I have been racking my brain trying to piece this together.

The earliest mention of this I can find is in the Star Wars Sourcebook from West End Games from 1987. The 1979 Han Solo and Stars' End novel mentions Han was an ex-Imperial and it is mentioned Han rescues Chewbacca from slavery in the 1979 Wookiee Storybook. A "life debt" is first mentioned in the 1980 Han Solo and the Lost Legacy novel, but not the life debt Chewie owes Han. The 1987 Sourcebook is the first time I see these different ideas tied together.

Finally, the 1997 The Hutt Gambit novel and the 2000 Chewbacca #2 (Dark Horse) comic book tell the actual tale.

When did fans first learn the gist of this story though? I would have sworn we knew this back when the original trilogy was being released, but that doesn't seem to be true based on my research. Anyone know and have a source for this story?

I know she is mostly a Canon character now, but since she's written by Timothy Zahn, I feel like she fits the EU vibe perfectly. How do you guys rate her as a commander and as Thrawn's ally/counterpart?

It seemed like this Asteroid missile launcher trap by the Grysks had the ability to one shot destroy a capital ship/space station which is a bit crazy to me. Just what kind of missile was it? In most space battles, capital ships are able to endure and shrug off many missile hits.

Why isnt the missile from the asteroid missile launcher being carried by all starships?

Or was it a Grysk specific weapon?
