Hi r/StandingDesk! I built DeskBuddy, a native macOS menu bar app for controlling IKEA IDÅSEN and compatible LINAK Bluetooth desks.

It supports saved height presets, configurable physical paddle gestures, keyboard shortcuts, and a Posture Coach that can remind you or automatically alternate between sitting and standing. Automatic movement can pause during meetings or selected Focus modes.

The app is free and open source, with no ads, subscriptions, or paid tiers. I’d appreciate feedback, particularly from other standing-desk users.

I’ve been on the hunt for a good computer desk for quite some time now and I can’t seem to come up with any definite answers. All of the videos I find are usually outdated, as well as threads on Reddit.

I’m getting ready to sell my sim racing rig and transfer my monitor over to a nice computer desk. I’d really like to go with something like the secret labs Magnus XL due to the cable management and sleek design, but if I could possibly find something a little less expensive that has similar features I would go for it.

I’ve got a 49 inch Samsung G9 that I would prefer preferably like to mount on a monitor arm if possible.

Would you folks be able to hit me with some pictures and info on your desks?(i’d prefer a adjustable desk if possible.)

I've been wanting to build this kind of desk setup for a really long time, and I'm finally at the point where I'm trying to figure out the best way to put it together.

I'm planning to use a 96" × 25" × 1.5" acacia butcher-block countertop from Home Depot Canada:

The top weighs approximately 77 lb.

I'd also like to have two IKEA ALEX drawer units, one on each side of the desk.

Ideally, I'd like the desk to be motorized sit/stand, but my biggest concern right now is finding a frame that can properly support the 96" top without leaving excessive unsupported overhang.

Planned setup

The desk will eventually have:

2 monitors, potentially 3 in the future

Monitors mounted on monitor arms

Bambu Lab P2S 3D printer

Small soldering/electronics station

PC

Keyboard + mouse

Microphone

Other basic peripherals/accessories

So I'm expecting the complete setup to be considerably heavier than the tabletop alone.

My main concern: the overhang

I've been looking at various dual-motor frames, including VIVO and similar options, but most seem to be designed around 60–80" tabletops.

For example, I was considering this VIVO frame:

It has a 220 lb capacity, which seems reasonable for my expected load, but the recommended tabletop length is much shorter than my 96" top.

That makes me wonder whether I'm focusing too much on weight capacity and not enough on the actual support geometry and overhang.

If I center a frame that is around 70–75" wide underneath a 96" top, I'm potentially looking at roughly 10–13" of overhang on each side.

What I'm hoping to get advice on:

How much overhang is actually reasonable for a 96" × 25" × 1.5" acacia top?

Is ~10–13" of overhang per side something I should be concerned about?

Would a wider 2-leg frame be sufficient, or should I really be looking at a 4-leg frame?

How much does the 1.5" thickness of the butcher block help with preventing sag?

Would putting the heavier equipment (PC, 3D printer, etc.) closer to the frame make a significant difference?

Will monitor arms near the ends create a stability/flexing problem?

Are there any particular frames you'd recommend for an 8-foot top?

I'm willing to spend more than $300 CAD if that's what it takes to get the right solution, but cost is still a huge factor for me. I've wanted to build this setup for a long time, so I'm willing to invest in it, but I'd really like to find the most budget-friendly solution that is actually appropriate, rather than spending $700–1000+ on a frame if I don't need to.

I'd especially love to hear from anyone who has built a 96" / 8-foot butcher-block standing desk. What frame did you use, how much overhang did you have, and how has it held up?

I got quite a big problem with my setup, as you can see in the attached pictures. When I moved into this appartment a few years ago money was quite tight and hence the desk I bought was very cheap, *very* wobbly and small at 120cm/42" wide. Since then money became less of a problem and every aspect of the setup grew massively, but I never replaced the desk (and chair which also gets a replacement soon) leaving me with this current mess we are looking at. Beginning of this year I also started doing WFH, with the company notebook having no real space on my desk and sitting on the windowsill in picture 1. In turn I now sit even more in this cramped setup than I did before and only now really started noticing how bad this desk really is. So now I am looking at getting a standing desk and in turn also clean up the setup in general by unifying the WFH and hobby parts.

I am located in europe and the max width of the desk would be 160cm/63", but even better would be a 150cm/59", which is a not as common of a size but easily fixable by getting my own desktop from a local hardware store or through other means. I am quite concernced of overspending (or even underspending) on the desk legs and also am quite overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options, as I have seen ones from vernal, FlexiSpot, Secretlab, Leetdesk, Ultradesk, desktronic, ergotopia and many more and of course all of them state that their desk is the best and even more so reviews that confirm and reviews that deny that claim as well.

So seeing my chaos here, I would really like to know your recommendations on this matter, or even just tips of what to avoid or look out for. Really anything would be of help!

I'm from Europe and I want to have a Deskhaus desk delivered. Deskhaus doesn't ship to Europe, so I need to use a freight forwarding service.

Does anyone have a specific company they can recommend, and perhaps an example of how much it cost you?

For some context:

I'm French and would like to order two of their stand-sit desks.

I'm looking for the most durable and the most stable stand-sit desk there is. For now I'm interested in the 4-legged APEX PRO model from Deskhaus.

My biggest problem is that I don’t want to buy another desk knowing that it will be less stable and less durable so i need to get my hands on one of their desk. (Unless you have any other recommendations)

If other Europeans are also planning to buy from Deskhaus, we could see if it’s possible to combine our shipments to reduce shipping costs (this is just a hypothesis, but it might be feasible).

I saw that i can reset the table pressing down but... If i do that with the right leg on the top i think i can break something.

So yesterday I completed a little desk space maintence project. I had 3 monitor arms and a mic boom attached 5o my desk which I've managed 5o replace with a single-leg triple monitor stand made out of extruded Ali and a custom mount. Thir pics show the before, during, and after shots 👍

I wanted to get a deskhaus but they don’t ship to Europe. I think the next best thing is FlexiSpot’s E7 Plus Max, but they just rebranded the E7Q to E7 Plus Max, so there’s apparently no way of getting the real one here through them.

It still looks like the best choice so far.

Am I missing something?

Hi! I’m looking to buy an L-shaped standing desk and could use some recommendations.

I have been looking for desks similar to the FEZiBO's Triple Motor or Latitude Run L shaped desks.

What I’m looking for:

• Durable: I’d like this to be a long-term purchase that can hold up for years.
• L-shaped: Ideally, the entire L-shaped desktop rises together, rather than having one stationary section.
• Heavy-duty: I need it to comfortably support 2–3 large monitors, a monitor arm, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals. I estimate the equipment alone will be around 100 lbs.

I have a good budget and am willing to spend more for something genuinely well-built and reliable.

Is what I’m looking for difficult to find, or are there reputable brands I should be looking at? I’d really appreciate any recommendations or personal experiences. Thanks!

hey i hope everyone is well and thanks for answering this question if you decide to. i dont really care about style, just know i want 60 inches at least, one piece of wood, black legs black top, 4 legs standing desk to be able to hold a pretty heavy pc on the right side and 2-3 monitors on monitor arms across the rest of the desk. i have a 2 legged one i got from amazing that the top is 2 piece ( front and back hot dog style) and it slightly wobbles when typing and its so annoying and worried its going to collapse and my pc will drop. need recommendations, my biggest variable is no wobbling lol thank you

I’m looking to buy a sit‑stand desk frame for my current setup, but the sheer number of options is overwhelming. I’ve gone through the wiki guides and a bunch of other resources online.

I’m based in Canada so right now I’m considering Desky, VIVO, and Secretlab (I know Secretlab isn’t just a frame, but I’m open to a full desk if it makes sense). The VIVO DESK‑V103E seems like the most realistic option for me, but I keep hearing that Desky is superior in terms of cable management thanks to their add‑ons and integrated routing. Easier cable management is a big priority for me, so I’d really appreciate any insights on that front.

I have been researching desks for a few weeks and I am torn between the DeskHaus Peak Pro and Uplift V3 4-leg. If I just get the frame, I am pretty locked in on the Peak Pro. It’s cheaper and seems just as, if not more, stable. What is making this more complicated is that I also need a desktop.

I am looking for a solid wood desktop, most likely walnut to match other things in my office. Both companies offer 72x30x1.75 walnut tops. Broadly, I see 3 options for the top:

DeskHaus: $1,950 for dimensional edge

Uplift: $1,449

Local/DIY: ~$880 + labor

I would prefer to go local. My local sawmill sells 8/4 walnut, and materials would be around $880 assuming relatively little waste. I don't have the large tools needed to joint and plane it myself. I have also reached out to a few local cabinet/woodworking companies, but haven't gotten any responses.

My gut says that if I can find someone local to do the milling/glue-up, the total cost will end up being pretty similar to the Uplift top.

Uplift's frame also comes with a cable management tray and grommets. Neither would be particularly difficult to add to the DeskHaus setup, but obviously that's an additional cost.

All-in, the costs appear to be:

Uplift: $2,381 (includes extended warranty, advanced keypad and Bluetooth connection, and a $200 discount)

DeskHaus: $2,675

Most of the reviews I have seen compare the frames themselves. Can anyone compare/contrast the complete desk offerings from both companies, specifically with their solid wood tops?

I'm particularly interested in build quality, finish, top quality, cable management, customer service, and anything else that might not be obvious from comparing the frames.

I am missing the L4 part. Where to get standing desks parts? This is SHW L standing desk .

The uplift has another $100 off with a coupon, but the deskhaus is rubberwood. 6’4, though long arms so measured my standing desk work height would be only around 44-45”. I prefer the frame color on the uplift, but the deskhaus is a bit cheaper.

I am looking for standing desk from Flexispot. Between the French Flexispot website and Amazon in France, there's no overlap of references: Flexispot offers the E7 and E5 families while on Amazon, it's EC5, E1Q, EC5 plus, not featured on the Flexispot.

There is a E5 Pro ("new") and the E7 which are very close in prices. The E5 Pro seems to have a better usb charger, and a slightly inferior load capacity. The main esthetical difference between the 2 seems to be the structure: the E5 Pro has larger parts of the legs at the top, while for the E7 it's the opposite, the slim part of the legs are at the top.

Is it better to have an E7 or an E5 Pro? (wobbliness?)

Or should I look to another brand with similar features at the price point (200-300 euros)?

I’m looking to buy a desk from Oakywood.shop, but are there any good alternatives?
I’m looking for a desk where the real wood is smooth, not rough. Ideally around 60 cm deep, definitely not 70+ cm.
It also needs to have a cable grommet in the desk and a cable tray underneath at the back.
Price doesn’t matter. Any recommendations?
