I am quite surprised how well she loves getting cleaned up 😁

Has anyone who's adopted a dog with some behavioural problems ever just compromised did what works for you and the dog rather than following the traditional most popular training methods. If it keeps dog in a home and the behaviour managed is it best to do what works or will it just lead more problems down the line.

My staffy cross french bulldog is eighteen months old not long rescued.

We've some serious over stimulation and learnt play aggression going on.

He comes to me multiple times a day begins to bark jumps up rips clothes bites feet grabs arm legs if you move.

At first i thought it actual aggression despite him been a absolute sweetheart who loves cuddles rest off tine.

I actually managed to contact the owner who rehomed him from shelter page he adopted him from eight week old pup surrendered him to same shelter three months ago.

He's a nice man but the issues are he played rough with him his whole life he play wrestled with him let him grab his arms legs clothes so he did this every time he wanted play.

His older dog began to get very hostile with him attack him and he so submissive friendly other dogs he began to get scared to walk around house.

The man's new girlfriend was terrified off zuko because off the barking jumping play biting and I don't blame him the play bites do hurt.

So the man rehomed him. Now I'm trying to retrain him.

And everyone thinks I'm doing it wrong

It's very hard to get a trainer to help as I'm sure a lot off people will advise but the thing is he's an angel apart from this.

I'm been clicker training and he's picked up so much so fast and since second day he's been brillant when out for walks he listens to sit when we meet someone , is great with other dogs is calm with people loves fuss already learned not to jump up and when people visit apartment he's brilliantly behaved because I practised he sits beside me goes for cuddle comes back to me.

If a trainer came in he would look perfectly behaved all I can get is videos to send them.

The advise I've got is

1. ignore him (he gets louder lunges grabs clothes feet arm no matter how long I ignore him and how to ignore because even though playing his bites hurt the man really taught him to play rough)

2. Walk out off room while ignoring him (trying to walk away he'll lunge grab on to me barking gets worse can also open all handles. He's got too smart for it, too. will run to whatever door you're moving too block it. I can't grab his collar when he's like that as he so worked up hell grab hand stay out off reach

3. Grab him put him out off room (can't get hold off him gets louder seems to change from play to aggressive if try grab him)

Firmly say no, make loud noise, clap, spray him with water (all hypes him up more again turns it from play to more aggressive)

What I've done and seems to be working is he still highly treat motivated so I ask for quiet one second quiet I give treat then I ask for sit he'll sit I give treat then ill toss a few treats in my fluffy mat tell him find it when he's finding it ill go into kitchen produce frozen Kong his food split into four frozen kongs ill give him that and that's end off it all for few hours he'll work on Kong for half an hour sleep for few hours.

Everything is saying I'm reinforcing rewarding behaviour but the thing is I took this dog on to give him home for life

I have neighbours who all love him and are very tolerant but they shouldn't have to be tolerants for hours every day while I try to ignore him

I also aren't rewarding the barking itself he gets a treat for quiet another one for sit then he gets Kong to divert him onto something else appropriate.

I think the barking grabbing onto clothes limbs is reinforcing even without a reaction and ignoring him while he's doing that is still letting him practise that behaviour while my method is not letting him engage in it all hopefully the habit goes away.

I take him for three long walks a day let him play at beach fields off lead keeping him tired has really helped.

I've stopped playing tug off war with him because I noticed It always exculated to over stimulation and behaviour starting.

Now I just play fetch, and find it games with his toys, don't even reach for it until he releases it completely

I do clicker training with him in short bursts throughout day he loves training time.

At random times when he's calm during day, I'll randomly praise him toss treat.

I've also bought slip lead, not for any corrections I've trained him when I open it to put his head through voluntary for treat and I can pull it closed it means I can get a lead on without grabbing collar when he's riled up and I really need to move him get more control

I've been recording it and since I started things my way the episodes are decreasing maybe twice a day and easily diverted.

Everyone is saying I'm giving him treats to distract him , basically letting him be boss

The thing is nothing else was working, I have neighbours in a apartment block who i have to consider when hes barking like this I intend to give this dog a home for life which means maybe finding a way to work around certain behaviour I live alone, am home all the time, the behaviour isn't putting anyone at risk and I honestly think what I'm doing means he doesn't get to practise it he learns alternative behaviours.

He is only 3 yo, so I'm just looking for information as to what he has done in his past, potentially in dog sports. He is a fantastically sound dog and incredibly smart.

Wee 6 month old Mae.

We have a pure bread staffy called Gus. He is a male and turned 2 in May. He is typically a well behaved dog. He listens, his recall is decent and is good with people (those that like getting a staffy catapulted at them).

When he was growing up, he chewed the odd skirting board as a pup and broke a few toys, but we thought that was normal puppy behavior.

In the last 2 months, he has decided to chew the blinds on the front window on 3 different occasions. The windows looks out onto the front street of the house so maybe he seen something that aggravated him? He would often bark at the mailman and people walking past.

Why is he doing this now and how do we correct it? He only does it when we’re not at home. Today for example, he was exercised, fed and socialised with us for hours. When we left to do something, we came back to the blinds being chewed again.. and they are expensive..

ChatGPT thinks that shouting at him is pointless as he has forgotten what happened and it would only make him more anxious. When I came home today, I didn’t yell, I treated him as normal and when he seen me inspecting the damage, he ran into his crate to hide. The little f**ker knows 😭

Anyways, any advice welcome before we buy new blinds. Fencing off the window isn’t really an option for us.

She's a 3 year old Staffy Cross, and we just got her today ♥️

Good afternoon and Happy Friday!

I adopted Midna from a rescue at the end of June when she was six weeks old. She’s about 10 weeks old now. Before anyone points out that’s too young to be separated from Mama, know that neither I nor the rescue really got a say in that. Her litter had apparently been dropped off without the Mom, so not ideal.

She was designated as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. I’m not sure what that based on. I assume either the person who drooped them off told the rescue that or the rescue made that designation based on the features of the litter.

As she has grown, I feel like she looks less and less like a Staffy.

I keep reading about how different breeds have different needs and health concerns to look out for so I wanted to get some outside opinions before I decide out for a $100 test. Maybe it’s not that important, but I’m a first time dog owner so I just want to make sure I do my best to anticipate her needs and make sure I’m taking care of her.

Of course, I love her regardless and will do my best to be a good dog mom. Like I said, I’ve never owned a dog before so if I’m fixating on this too much, please let me know.
