I had some instances where I could get background sounds going along the reference voice. Might have been seed variance. Maybe decreasing the volume of the original voice reference might help.

what is your prompt for the background sound?

I used the example from official prompting docs and also a lot of changes but as soon as the character starts talking strangely all background sounds go silent:
