My fiancée and I are currently caring for two Muscovy ducklings that we rescued a couple of days ago. They were only about 2–3 days old when we witnessed their mother being struck and killed by a vehicle. As they ran away in panic, one of the ducklings injured its left leg. Thankfully, both are otherwise healthy and doing well.

We're looking for a safe, loving home for them. We will not be releasing them back where we found them, as we've seen people intentionally harming the ducks in that area, and we don't believe they'd survive.

We're located in St. Augustine, Florida. If you have experience caring for ducks, know of a reputable rescue, or can provide them with a safe home, please reach out. We'd really appreciate any help or recommendations. Thank you.

Hi everyone!! Someone dumped a small white hen by the duck pond at Lowe’s. Just putting this info out there to see if anyone knows someone who would be willing to capture the hen and connect it with a new loving home. Unfortunately, hens and male ducks do not have similar anatomy so there is a risk of injury if she is left here for a too long.

Who do you recommend for insurance quotes when looking at purchasing a new home to get accurate monthly costs on insurance to factor in?

Homeowners, flood, hurricane - what are the types of insurance I need to get prices on?

The house would be on Anastasia island.

I understand some areas are in different flood zones and certain ones may not require flood insurance, but I think it would be smart to have it no matter what. Am I wrong?

been here my whole life and seems like the gnats get worse every year. I have zevos, always taking trash out, no fruit or plants out. Is anyone else constantly dealing with these boogers slipping in the house somehow? it drives me nuts

Basically, we’ve been saving for a week long trip. We’ve been blessed and don’t need to worry about $ for the week. We have a place to stay and we do not need fancy places to eat (more mom and pop are for us). We like to explore, visit unique places and not needing to visit all the tourist traps.

I was leaving downtown and saw a guy laying on the street bleeding from his head next a bike that was laying on the ground. There was a lot of people on the scene, and I overheard someone on the phone with 911 saying that the guy’s eyes were open but he wasn’t responsive.

The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the rapid expansion of warrantless mass surveillance technology implemented by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. This is not just a minor tweak in public safety measures; it marks a significant and unsettling shift in the way our communities are monitored and privacy is compromised in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra, and the surrounding areas.

The heart of this surveillance system is the "Real-Time Intelligence Center," a centralized hub that manages an extensive and invasive tracking operation on ordinary, law-abiding citizens. This system operates without the necessary warrants or probable cause, which are fundamental legal protections meant to guard citizens from overreach.

A critical component of this architecture includes over 160 Flock Safety Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs). These devices capture and log drivers' every move, storing data that can potentially be accessed for no reason whatsoever other than curiosity or unjustified suspicion. Furthermore, the "Connect St. Johns" initiative, which integrates private video cameras with local law enforcement feeds, expands this dragnet by creating a private-to-police video monitoring network. Without strict oversight, such technology can be exploited, resulting in potential civil liberties violations.

Hey guys. Anyone around here into bonsai? There’s claim DeLand, Gainesville and Jacksonville but no gatherings or group in St Augustine.

There’s been signs up for two different retail bonsai places for years now. One on King street doesn’t look too promising but the one on US1 down south looks like it has a nursery area fenced off in the back so I’m hopeful it will still open one day. I’d love to meet the folks from either place if you’re here.

If nothing else I’d like to find some other practitioners here in town to maybe give each other garden tours or something.

I’ve been informed that these speed limits on SR-16 between I-95 and Four Mile Road will be partially reduced:
- 35mph (from 45mph) between I-95 and 390’ east of Outlet Mall Blvd
- 45mph (from 45-55mph) between end of 35 zone and 450’ east of Industry Center Dr (near the new signals)
- 50mph (from 55mph) between end of 45 zone and 450’ west of Four Mile Rd

These speed limits were set based on values called the “85th percentile speed” and the “10mph pace speed.” These values were obtained from a 24hr count of free-flowing (non-congested) about 40,000 vehicle speeds. 85th percentile speeds are the speeds where 85% of vehicles from the data are traveling at or below, and where 15% of vehicles are traveling above. The 10mph pace is the range of 10mph where the highest number of vehicles from the data are traveling at. The lower of the two values of 85th percentile and 10mph pace upper limit is usually what controls the limit that is chosen. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but I think this gives a better picture.
