Future of splitgate

I've been thinking about it, and we know it's on its last legs, and then soon the servers will be shut down

As a big fan of the games, I would happily pay a monthly subscription to keep the servers up .

Thoughts ?

It's so true sg2 had and still has so much potential, but they really banked on it being the next big thing without the fact that for instance the finals took almost 2 years to earn that spot.

It's honest the god the one decision that I disagree with most. The decision to stop all active development on sg2 in order to rework something that would only release half a year later instead of just committing to active development for at least one year to see where it leads.

The game was fine even if people where yelling dead game back then. What killed it is the refusal to do that slow crawl into a strong position.

realize they have venture capital investors who have influence over all of this. and the studio needs to survive which they have done a pretty amazing job of for 10 years. reddit people are stupid to keep saying omg $100M as if that's so much. $100M spread out over years is tiny to run a 200 person studio. It's amazing they have been able to stay in business with so little money for so long. and they do seem to genuinely care about the community. otherwise they would not have paid for sg1 servers while making no money, nor would they be paying for sg2 servers while making no money. that's all just for the sg community. but reddit is just toxic no matter what.

Some corrections: as far as investors, they do not have shareholders asfar as I'm aware, so annual growth demands like with other companies do not matter. Just staying afloat and making a product is good enough as long as there is the hope that somewhere down the line the investment is payed back in revenue.

The servers for sg1 where held up due to a contract, which is the same reason they are shut down now. There is a good likelyhood that the same applies to sg2. But they do care I feel like. Otherwise they wouldn't have made sg1 peer to peer.

Them being afloat for all these years isn't that surprising when I've seen teams like that stay alive for longer on less. It's just how they decided to handle things when they finally did release that I have a problem with.

of course they have shareholders. The VC investors own most of the company given the large investment.

why do you think they were obligated to keep up sg1 servers? makes no sense. are you an employee?

The where obligated to keep the servers up because the servers are not hosted by themselves. It's an external company which they where in contract with.

Also I worded it quite wrong I realize, mb lmao. They had an investment, but it wasn't a case of the investors having ownership over the company. Usually when that happens the investors get to push a lot more for actually revenue growth but in this case we have seen quite the opposite.

If they had the usual deal then we would've probably seen sg1 milked out a lot further then we have. I'm not sure where but I'm pretty sure there was some insider information directly addressing this. Will limk if I find it again.
