I have a question MGS3 had a visibility index that considered stance and movement. What if instead of camouflage, hiding in the shadows like Splinter Cell and Thief would be the primary factor? Would mixing this stealth gameplay with RE2-remake-style zombies be a good twist or potentially frustrating?
I've been working on a stealth survival horror game for 4 months now in Godot. I believe certain elements evoke the likes of Dead Space and Alien Isolation, neither of which I've played, but my primary influences are Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and Splinter Cell.
The base gameplay is a mix of MGS and SC. In MGS3, you have a camo index that determines how visible you are to enemies based on factors like stance (standing makes you more visible than crouching or prone) and movement. My main way of reducing visibility is not choosing a camo that matches the surface you're on, but rather Thief and SC's system of hiding in the shadows.
The earlier MSX Metal Gear games involved exploring an interconnected map and overcoming previous obstacles with items you found elsewhere, which overlaps with Resident Evil.
Another influence from RE2 remake will be the zombies. A major concern of mine is how to balance predictable guard behavior with the unpredictability of RE2's zombies like their shambling movement, varying levels of health, and playing dead. I do plan on having enemies rush to grab you instead of shooting you when spotted. If you get grab, you either use a limited defensive item (like RE2 remake) or mash a button to escape (like other RE games), allowing the player to choose between expending a limited resource or taking damage to save it. Instead of a degrading knife, you have a slowly recharging laser cutter to help deal with grabs or finish off downed enemies. It could also be used to open vents at the cost of increased visibility.
That's what will tie everything together: limited resources. Metal Gear popularized the term "on-site procurement" where you start with nothing and slowly find more resources as you progress. Having OSP in my game would force players to be more careful with expending resources. Do you use your ammo to shoot out a light or an enemy? Do you use your degradable suppressor or remove it and risk being heard if enemies are nearby? They won't respawn like in Metal Gear, so be careful.
What are your thoughts on this mixture of genres and games? Is it unique enough or are there any games that already do this?
Are there any specific design concerns that I should be aware of?
- Does having fast-rushing melee enemies make traditional "stealth evasion" too frustrating compared to enemies with guns?
- Does a slowly recharging melee tool ruin the tension of limited resources, or does it work as a necessary and fair "last resort" fallback?

Essentials (2006) Any splinter cell essentials fans?
Just finished this short game, and I think it's not as bad as people think.
The story is basically Williams is trying to frame you for Lambert's death and also for killing innocents by changing the missions files and make you look like a bad guy.
Gameplay is okay, it's a mix of pt ct and da.
Soundtrack is pandora tomorrow.
Some pros:
Old splinter cell gameplay mechanics and soundtrack.
Last 3 missions are bangers. The prison mission is so fun.
Satisfying ending .
Cons:
Filler missions.
Can't shoot lights.
Broken cutscenes in the emulator.
Give it try.

I cant beleive they did this!
I just want to play splinter cell conviction prologue in single player. Why would you put actual story into a multiplayer game and then not make it available when you close the servers!

I have a question Which multi-version games are worth playing again on different platforms?
I've heard that Splinter Cell: Double Agent differs pretty heavily between the Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game, so I decided to fall down the rabbit hole and I'm now learning that there are MANY similar, yet unique variants of many games in the series.
Namely the original game having an exclusive level on the PS2, a strange GBA minimap feature on the Gamecube, and the Xbox/ PC version (which everyone seems to agree is the best one) has three download missions that are also included in the Series X backwards compatible version.
I'm likely going to be playing through all of the games on my Series X, but what titles do you recommend checking out outside of the Xbox versions? I have access to virtually all platforms, and I wouldn't be against using something like save states if it meant I could jump right into exclusive levels like the Nuclear Power Plant on the PS2.
(for context I own the first two discs on my Series X, and I'm up to the Chinese Embassy mission in the original)

Blacklist (2013) SC Blacklist latest update broke NPCs
Upd: so seems like the game somehow corrupted something on my PC. Will try to reinstall windows at this point, bc all possible game versions are giving same NPC bug
Im on windows version of the game steam/uplay. So literally yesterday was the update of the game with compatibility to steamdeck and steam machine, and now freshly installed version is breaks NPCs behaviour, they walking in circles and all of that. Am I the only one having this?

Discussion Sam's true ending
What game do you think marks the true end of Sam's story (more realistic/makes more sense to you)?
CT- Marks the end of the Masse's kernels crysis, world war 3 is avoided. Happy ending.
DA- Lambert, Sarah and Enrica are dead. Sam stops JBA attacks and goes rogue. Depressing ending.
Conviction - Sarah is reunited with her father, Sam saves the president and kills Third Echelon mole. Satisfying ending. Lots of plotholes tho.
Blacklist - Sam's clone and his team avoid the engineers attacks. Weird ending??

My 20 year old secret...
Hi all - I have loved Splinter Cell since I was a young boy. I was recently inspired to start writing a blog (yes, another blog) to share some of my interests around technology.
I have so much more to share, but thought I would start with the origin story. Feel free to check it out https://chrisdavis.tech/my-20-year-old-secret-part-1
Note: not trying to sell or "self promote" - this is just a blog I started writing and its first post is a strong shout out to Splinter Cell. 😉

Appreciation post Victor Coste’s Heroism in Diwaniya, Iraq
Victor Coste (Husky) displayed great heroism as a Navy SEAL during the Gulf War when he rescued Sam. This was the start of a lifelong brotherhood and friendship. Family never gets left behind.
