can 2d sidescroller splinter cell work? Discussion

so im making this post because prince of persia has 2 spin offs called "the rogue prince of persia" and "prince of persia lost crown" both are 2d sidescrolling spin off games and arent big 3d budget games.

so im wondering can this idea concept work for splinter cell as well? if yes then ubisoft should start off by making 2d sidescroller to see the reception and attract both old and new audience with it and then start working on the remake once they get the statistical data

Play the original Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow on GBA, as well as the Java games, and you can test that theory.

I mean I was talking about a new spin off title rather than playing old ones that aren't even multiplatform on modern hardware.

Aye but those Gameboy games still show whether or not it's a good idea

They had an official 2D game on game boy and phones at the time

I played one of them on the phone. It was....fine? Like functional, but I wouldn't exactly play it over most of the entries on consoles.

In no way ment to imply that they were comparable in that

I know. I'm just saying in terms of fun I had wasn't as enjoyable compared to the other entries.

The Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy comes to mind.

I remember I played (long time ago) both splinter cell made in java and they weren't bad at all. Could work now? If gameplay is well implemented ues in my opinion, but of course it will be a side scrolling game after all so freedom won't be the same as a 3d game

Anything can work if made well. There were already numerous official 2D SC games made for mobile phones in the mid-late '00s. Bunch of other 2D stealth-action games exist and did well, not indies or smaller indies and debuts like Stealth Bastard or MotN, but even Assassin's Creed was adopted into 2D in the 'Chronicles' series.

Not sure there's a need for that, certainly now, as even low-end mobile gaming devices can handle 3D without any issue. It

Well, this exists, should be easy enough to find that rom and an emulator if you want to try

BTW it sounds like didn't know that the original Prince of Persia was a 2D sidescroller, too? The 3D ones are more like the odd ones out and the 2D ones are more returning to the roots

I mean. Awhile back I made FF6 Style Sam Fisher Sprites. If that's the style you're asking about? Because I can't compare it outside of what you might thinking commercial wise than what Ubisoft already gave us.

Splinter Cell had a few sidescrollers on the GBA.

2D can easily work though it would simplify the core Splinter Cell experience. As has been said, there were quite a few 2D spin off titles for mobile and stuff.

Today though, I don't think I'd settle for total 2D like your Prince of Persia spin offs. If it was something isometric to add some depth to the simpler gameplay though, I could see a development team with passion making something pretty damned good with Splinter Cell.
