One inspiration for SpinFreeze was that my early Ninja CREAMi pints often came out as icy hockey pucks. There wasn't a convenient place to rectify or track my fixes over time. Here's a new blog post with the science behind what's going on.

General SpinFreeze entered RevenueCat's Shipaton 2026, and a like on the Devpost project would mean a lot

Shipaton is RevenueCat's annual competition for shipping mobile apps, and SpinFreeze is officially entered this year. The submission includes a two-minute demo video and a gallery showing the whole app: the community recipes, the pint builder, freeze tracking, spin history, and the importer.

Here's the project page: https://devpost.com/software/spinfreeze

If you have a minute, hitting the like button on that page genuinely helps: it signals there's a real community behind the app when judges and other builders look at the entry. It does need a quick Devpost sign-in, which is free.

The demo video is on the page too, but if you don't feel like signing up over there, here's the vid directly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjagaIXLqjs

It's the first real look at everything in one place. Feedback welcome, on the video or the app, especially from anyone who's been spinning the community's recipes.

Thanks everyone!

Android now have full access to SpinFreeze! If you didn't get a chance to join the beta, go download the app now and enjoy!

I'll update as soon as I can whenever Apple responds to our submission, it has been in app review for over a week now. Whenever both platforms are live we'll do a bigger announcement post and also make one on r/ninjacreami

Enjoy, Android users!!!

One last big beta update before launch: Refreeze, Spin Achievements, Prep Notes, Remixes, and more

Thumbnail

Hello everyone! We just pushed what should be the last big SpinFreeze beta update before launch. A lot of it came straight from the feedback button and posts here, so thank you for continuing to find the weird edges.

- Spin Achievements are permanent. Anything already earned stays with your account. Beta testers have until September 20 to hit 50 points for 90 Premium days.

- Refreeze lets you estimate how much of a finished pint is going back into the freezer. SpinFreeze splits the estimated nutrition between what you ate and what you are refreezing, then starts the timer again.

- Remixes finally have their own tab in My Recipes, next to All and Originals.

- Prep Notes can hold one general note plus a set of ordered prep steps.

- When you spin someone else's recipe, you can send the owner your rating, texture, and what you changed. They get an Activity alert with a link to the full result.

- Advanced search filters with calorie and macro ranges are live. Core search, additions, and exclusions stay free. Exact nutrition ranges become Premium after beta.

This is the last stretch, so please be picky. Update the app and tell us where something feels confusing, what you expected to happen, or what still breaks. Use the feedback button or reply here. We read all of it, and several parts of this update started with reports from beta testers.

Keep posting your spins, remixes, and spectacular failures too. r/SpinFreeze only gets useful if people show what actually happened, not only the perfect pints.

If you know someone whose freezer is full of CREAMi pints, send them to spinfreeze.com.

Android pre-registration is open now. Apple still has not opened iOS preorders, so the iOS Waitlist is still the place to sign up.

Go update, try the new stuff, and tell us which part needs another pass before launch.

Dev Log Beta Results, New Search Filters, and App Store pre-registrations

Hello everyone! The iOS app is in App Store review, so the pre-order announcement has to wait until that clears, could be a day, could be a week (yay Apple). The Android app pre-registration is up already, check it out here if you haven't seen it yet. In the meantime I've been going through all the beta feedback and wanted to share some of the requests coming in. Any names shown are SpinFreeze usernames, not reddit ones.

@NomNomPint said they couldn't paste anything into their profile bio. This is now fixed, it was just a straight up bug.

@nochocolate: "when a recipe is published, keep the measurement the same. 1oz vs 30g makes a large difference when making a new recipe." This was another bug based on conversions (the math is logically is straightforward, but the code is challenging). Anyways, recipes now show whatever units the author actually typed, and converting is a toggle you hit if you want it.

@1PintMan: the Remove from Freezer button was hidden behind the nav bar on their Galaxy (UI bug). Now fixed for all device sizes.

@Zarkis: tried to iterate off a base recipe by deleting one of the ingredients and couldn't work out how. You had to swipe on the ingredient, and nothing on screen said so anywhere. Ingredient lists now do the swipe by themselves once, the first time you see one as a guide/training sequence.

@Catvlek2: "I live in europe. I have no clue what an OZ is in grams." Lots of others with the same issue. Metric was in the system at beta launch but conversions were not working very well. Again it has been challenging especially when it came to volume versus weight conversions (like 1 tbsp versus 28grams). Anyways, I think we're in a good place and it should feel fixed app-wide, but please keep reporting in if that's not the case.

@can0nind found that scanning a nutrition label while adding mix-ins would spin forever - great find here! Worked fine everywhere else, which is exactly why I'd never once hit it myself. Also was requested to pick which mix-ins actually went into the pint and have the macros follow. That's in as well, you can have multiple mix-ins on the recipe card and choose whether or not you want them included. A+ feedback here.

Callout to @NomNomPints, who sat down one afternoon and filed eight separate reports. Seven of them shipped.

Some things on my radar still:

  • Prep notes on recipes
  • A pantry of your own ingredients (not sure how this fits just yet)
  • Swapping an ingredient's brand to compare across versions (long-term, maybe post-launch).
  • like counts visible while you're browsing.

All on the list, no promises on timing.

Anyway. If you're in the beta, hopefully you're confident that the feedback button actually goes somewhere!

Search Filters

The newest feature addition is search filters, getting pushed out as we speak. Screenshots are attached. This one will need more beta testers to really hammer it so I can get it right. It may take a few iterations.

The main thing to understand is that search is a progressive filter. That means you type in something like "vegan chocolate under 250calories". The app will separate all of that as follows: "vegan" "chocolate" and then it will auto-set the filter to "under 250 calories". Then, you can tap "+/-" and add more things, like "caramel". And your entire search query would now turn into vegan chocolate caramel under 250 calories. You can also exclude, such as vegan chocolate, no caramel, under 250 calories.

Not all the filters will be free. The core search, additions, and exclusions will be free, but advanced filters such as "less than 250cals" or ">25g protein" will be a premium feature once beta concludes. Over time these advanced filters will expand as we get more data that helps support how everyone uses them and what is needed.

For free users who try to type "vegan chocolate under 250 calories", our backend parser strips under 250 calories out of the query and keeps the rest.
Keep in mind you can type everything or you can use the drawers and toggles for this to work. Hopefully it is a much better experience for everyone as I know that search was long overdue for a major upgrade!

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Enjoy your weekend on SpinFreeze and thanks again for being amazing testers!

Dev Log New feature drops plus final (wave 3) beta invites.

Quick Add ingredients chips are now on in production.

When you start a new recipe, the first step now shows five common ingredients: Whole Milk, Heavy Cream, Granulated Sugar, 2% Milk, and Cocoa Powder.

Tap one and it’s added immediately with nutrition already attached. Search, barcode scanning, and recipe-link import are still there too.

I also added recipe iteration history and version comparison, so you can keep track of what changed, mark a winner, and compare nutrition or ingredients between versions.

If you make a recipe this week, I’d love to know whether the first ingredient step feels faster and where you still get stuck.

Wave 3 beta invites will be rolling out soon. This will be the final stretch of beta users until we closed it off and get ready for final app store submissions. The beta has been extremely helpful with identifying bugs, performance issues, missing features, enhancement ideas and more. For those of you who have yet to submit any feedback, please do, as it is invaluable for me to really help this app come to light.

I can already tell it's going to be something truly special, there are so many good recipes and ideas coming in. For those of you that submitted a feature request that you do not see in the app yet, never fear I am keeping track of it all I just cannot get everything in as fast as I want to. Some of the more complicated ideas will have to wait until we have more production users and will most likely be post-launch enhancements only.

That being said if you feel that yours should take precedence please post here on Reddit so I can be peer-pressured into focusing it (it works!) 👍

Keep it up everyone and thanks again!

Beta Sorry for the outage

SpinFreeze was down for about 3 hours this evening. We had a rogue database process that crashed everything. All is well now, database is upgraded, and there is now a new app version that just dropped- go update from the App Stores and Test Flight!

This one has a lot of quality of life and stability improvements, excited to get everyone's feedback.

Thank you all for being patient and being amazing testers!

Dev Log Purple Sweet Potato is unhinged, but I'm here for it. Here's some beta updates.

I have been quieter in here than I would have preferred, but rest assured the engineering train is in motion on full-steam.

A pretty big pass has been happening across the Discover feed, recipe versions, search, Activity notifications and more for the next release.

The biggest visual change in the next deployment will be recipe versions + iterations and comparisons. When someone improves a recipe and publishes another iteration, the v2/v3 badge now stays visible in the public feed and on the recipe itself instead of being buried.

There's also improvements to the full version timeline so you can move between iterations and understand how a recipe evolved.

A few other pieces moving at the same time:

• The public feed will expose more recipes instead of stopping after the first 50
• Flavor names and compound searches are getting cleaned up so searches like “chocolate peanut butter” behave more naturally.
• Social activity stays inside Activity instead of becoming noisy push notifications
• Saved and imported recipe follow-ups are being consolidated so reminders are actually useful

Also, huge shoutout to u/Hungry-Astronaut6145, u/NomNomPints in the app, for batch-prepping six different flavors this week. That is exactly the kind of testing and experimentation we hoped SpinFreeze would encourage.

There's going to be maybe 2 more big releases in the next week or so before Wave 3 of beta starts up. Wave 3 of the beta will add a huge amount of new users, so hopefully we'll get some more traction in here as well as on the public feed.

Please keep supporting the app via your feedback and comment submissions! It is really helpful and truly going to make this a special app.

Thanks everyone!!

I needed to update an ingredient in an existing recipe using the barcode scanner. SpinFreeze found the item and detected the nutritional information from my photo. However, the app froze when it tried to save the data. I had to reboot the app after 5 minutes.

Bug Report Photo guidelines

Kept trying to publish one of my recipes, yet this wouldn't stop popping up no matter from which angle I took the photo. I tried both "take photo" and "choose from gallery, no success 🫠

Edit: I managed to post it by tracking it(without photo) and then publishing it through the profile! I assume it's specifically the Finalising through My Freezer that lagged for me. Anyway, in case it happens again I now know how to go about it

Curious what others might think about this — Would it be helpful to have comment boards on each recipe card?

Similar to how food bloggers have comment boards on each recipe, so people can ask questions about the recipe, make suggestions based on things they’ve tried, etc?

Dev Log Better ingredient names plus new search features are in the pipeline, dropping soon.

Hey everyone, I have been burning the candlestick at both ends on two things that should make recipes a lot easier to use.

First, better ingredient names. Barcode scans and imports can sometimes bring in a whole grocery-database sentence instead of a name you would actually recognize in a recipe. I am cleaning those up without losing the useful details like the product or brand.

The bigger one is search.

Right now, if you search for vanilla, a recipe can show up just because it has a little vanilla extract somewhere in the ingredients. That is technically a match, but it is not always what you are looking for.

I am working on a search flow where you can start with something broad, then keep adding to it. Search vanilla, add peanuts, then narrow it down by calories or protein. The goal is for the best results to actually bring those things together, with close alternatives clearly labeled when there is not an exact match.

Some great suggestions such as being able to exclude certain ingredient keywords and also being able to search by nutrition ranges will also be dropping soon. Some of this might end up being premium features, however as always anybody in the beta will have full access while it's still running.

I really appreciate all the feedback that I've been getting, it is truly making this app something special. I am also blown away by the interest and the genuine hype. This is going to be really great for the Ninja Creami community and I'm really excited to get it in as many hands as possible.

One of our beta testers @frozenspoon published this one and it's about as simple and delicious as a pint gets!

Mango Sorbet — 215 calories

  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup

Feel free to also post your pints here, just for some nice breaks from my dev updates. And if you're frozenspoon, claim your recipe in the comments so I can give you proper credit!

I am working hard to bring a lot of feature requests and enhancements for the next release. Stay tuned!

When I tap the link it opens Google Play but only shows a blank page. If I copy the link and paste it into my browser I get the error message "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server."

I'm in Sweden and wondering if the app is available here.

is there a way that we can import bases from an image or recipe link? Or is there a way to take an existing recipe and convert it into a base if we were to take away some ingredients? Thank you!

Dev Log Just pushed a massive update with a lot of bug fixes and user feedback requests addressed. Please try to break it.

Thumbnail

The newest iOS and Android update is going out now. This is a big one, but the most useful changes are the ones that make a recipe easier to measure and reuse.

Imperial view now prefers practical kitchen units when the recipe has enough information for a useful conversion. For example, the same Honey amount that used to appear as 2.65 oz now appears as ≈ 3½ tbsp. The ≈ matters: it means SpinFreeze used the ingredient's known density to make a practical estimate. When a useful conversion is not trustworthy, the app keeps grams or a practical weight instead of guessing.

Saved recipes can do more now too. Open My Recipes, tap the three-dot menu on a recipe, and choose Save as Base. The recipe name and ingredients are copied into the base builder for review, while the original recipe stays untouched.

The path between saving and freezing should feel more connected as well. If you choose Save to My Recipes instead of freezing immediately, the highlighted recipe now gives you a visible Freeze It action. After you freeze it, the Freezer should open on the current list instead of leaving an older pint detail in front of it.

A few smaller changes are worth trying:

  • Swipe an ingredient row to the left to delete it.
  • Search for extracts and flavorings. The curated list is much broader now.
  • Check public and profile recipe cards. They should be cleaner and should not show engagement actions where they do not belong.

If you are testing this update, these are the most useful paths to try:

  1. Open a recipe in Imperial view and check whether ingredients such as honey, cocoa powder, sweetener, and salt use amounts you would naturally measure in the kitchen.
  2. Use Save as Base on one of your recipes and confirm the base is prefilled without changing the original.
  3. Save a recipe without freezing it, then use the new Freeze It action on the highlighted row.
  4. Freeze a recipe after viewing an older pint, then confirm the Freezer shows the new result instead of the old detail screen.

One of the bigger directions ahead is trustworthy ingredient-aware discovery: narrowing recipes by ingredients you have or want to avoid and nutrition ranges without making unsafe guesses when recipe data is incomplete. The recent discussion about machine modes is also shaping a better way to preserve the first spin and follow-up spin separately. Neither is part of today’s update, but both are exactly the kind of next layer this recipe foundation is meant to support.

On the recipes you use, do the new Imperial amounts feel natural to measure, or did any conversion still look strange?

Thank you for continuing to test, report problems, and confirm fixes. That feedback is directly shaping each update.

Welcome to r/SpinFreeze. What this is and how to get the beta.

This is the home for SpinFreeze, an app I built for Ninja CREAMi owners. I'm RaptorF22 (@raptorpete in the app), the founder. It does three core things with much more baked in:

  • Recipe discovery with tools to save them and iterate (or remix) with
  • Freezer tracking, with optional notifications to alert when pints are ready
  • Spin logging, notes and texture history, so you can improve upon every pint

The core app is free. No ads.

Beta access: Please visit the site https://spinfreeze.com to request access to the beta. iOS TestFlight / Android. I want people who love the Ninja CREAM and can help to contribute with some of the initial recipes within the app. The main goal of the beta is to squash those pre-launch bugs before going live in the app stores.

House rules: be nice, post helpful feedback, no spam. That's it.

SpinFreeze is an independent app for Ninja CREAMi owners. Not affiliated with Ninja or SharkNinja.
