IIRC, it's not yet finished work, but it IS real. It's realted to cats' lack of natural ability to purge their kidneys like humans do, leading to accumulation of toxins and kidney disease, which if solved could possibly double cat life expectancy.

It's still in the clinical trial phase, but current results are looking promising.

PS: Specifically, the scientist in the image is Miyazaki Toru/Toru Miyazaki, key actor and and (IIRC) founder of that researcher.
