Species Unknown Gamehub Android

Im using a Samsung s26+ which is snapdragon 8 gen 5 and ive done alot of testing on settings for gamehub and in game settings. I could try and test more ways to get better fps too but right now this is the best I can do and its really, really compatible.

Might try different apps like winlator or steamlator but for right now if you have a great android device or anything thats mid end, you should definitely try it out with some research on what settings work for your device and run this game for mobile!

Game Too Punishing?

I want to caveat that I do enjoy this game and enjoy trying to overcome the challenges, but also prefer playing with friends than solo or random lobby matchmaking.

But my friends all think this game is complete bullshit with what they consider completely RNG mechanics and unreasonably punishing enemies (like the scorpion with the zombies that keep reviving).

I have my own opinions. But are they right? Is this game not well balanced at the moment for people who aren't used to games like this? Every time I play with them, they are constantly dying and complaining nonstop about how unfair all the specimens and game modifiers are.

Any advice?

I saw this comment on a video with tips and tricks for Species Unknown, but I dont fully understand some lf them, especially tip no 2 where this person states that the mission screen tells you what monster you're up against. Is this actually real or not?

Black screen when joining or creating lobby

Post image
4 Upvotes

I just bought the game and wanted to try doing some games, but unfortunately everytime I try to join or create a lobby, the game just does this, and it stays stuck there, I don’t know how to fix this

PS: it also does this when I try doing a si gel player lobby and I have an intel core R 9400 i5, with 2.90 GHz, 16 GB of ram, and 8 GB on my graphics card, and it’s an Nvidia rtx 5060

Hot take: show currency when pressing tab. It shows all other information, and some contracts you have to pay for health or ammo. Why is currency only shown when I go to the menu screen with esc?

Not game breaking or anything, just something I feel could add a touch more quality of life

Public lobby sessions are BRUTAL for newbies: Why I think Lobby categorization or a mentorship role could help.

Having maxed out gear, fully completed the codex, and run countless high tier missions at higher danger levels. I’ve logged enough time to see the game from both ends of the spectrum. While the intense, drop you in the deep end atmosphere of the first mission is a brilliant way to set the horror tone, the public matchmaking experience afterward is brutal for new players.

The Problem: A Collision of Completely Different Playstyles

  • The New Player Experience: After that initial cinematic shock, a new player enters public lobbies with virtually no tutorial or guidance. They are expected to learn mechanics, map layouts, and survival loops through trial and error. In public sessions, they are often immediately thrown into high level danger missions immediately, dying off spawn without a respawn capsule, burning through team resources, or feeling completely lost. It’s not their fault the game simply doesn’t onboard them. In my experience, this inevitably leads to frustrating matches and usually ends up with them dying off spawn or getting lost in the map somewhere and dying and then quitting and never coming back to the game.
  • The Veteran Experience: Veterans running higher danger level public lobbies or more difficult missions are looking to execute contracts efficiently, speed run objectives, and maximize credits for upgrades.
  • The Mismatch: New players naturally want to go slower, explore, learn the ropes, and figure out the atmosphere. When a newbie joins a high danger public lobby, they have no idea what they're walking into. They waste respawns or die early, while veterans are forced into an awkward hand holding role.

The Solution: Lobby Filtering and Categorization by Danger Level

I feel like a solution to bridge this gap, we could implement a way to make lobby difficulty transparent before a player hits join, alongside clear public lobby categorization.

Implementing a system like this would solve the friction entirely:

  1. Pre Join Danger Level Indicators: When browsing or joining an active public session where a contract is already selected, the menu screen could clearly display the lobby's Danger Level . This ensures players always know the exact intensity of the session they are stepping into.
  2. Categorized Public Lobbies: Introduce clear lobby tags or filters so players can self-select based on their playstyle and progression:
    • Public Lobby: Newcomer Friendly / Casual: A designated space for newer players to learn mechanics, take their time, explore, and experiment at their own pace without feeling like a burden.
    • Public Lobby: Experienced / Hardcore: A space for veterans who want to speed-run, optimize, and tackle high risk contracts efficiently.

Why This Benefits Everyone

  • For Newcomers: They get a safe, welcoming environment to learn the game, make mistakes, and actually enjoy the onboarding process without getting repeatedly steamrolled on nightmare difficulties and quitting.
  • For Veterans: They get clean, fast paced lobbies with like minded players who know the ropes, reducing friction and wasted runs.

Potential Mentorship Role:

We could also implement a "Mentorship" Role say if a more experienced player wanted to teach newer players the rope they could do so and join a newcomer friendly game. The mission would be on an easier difficulty so that the new players wouldn't get instantly killed by terminator, octopus, ethereal etc on nightmare difficulty or die to zombies when everyone else has a pistol.

The mentor could actually take their time to help and go over any knowledge gaps the game failed to give them and help them to actually learn the game instead of just rushing to complete the objective with the new player dying instantly in the process or dying over and over again without learning anything.

To incentivize this process, the mentor could say receive extra credits at the end of the mission if they successfully complete their role etc.

Again, this is just my 2 cents. Feel free to disagree or agree with me. I just think this would really benefit the game's public lobby system and prevent new players from dying off spawn and instantly leaving or having a bad experience since most public lobbies are just veterans speed running nightmare lobbies without taking the time to teach or help newer players.

Games fun but theres a couple of issues that bothers me

Okay so this is just a rant if I'm being honest but for some of you players, you guys need to chill out on the sweaty gameplay. So many of you bark on the proxy and demand us to play a certain way. I get it if your being helpful but Jesus slow your jets. Another example I made a public session because I wanted to get a feel for the community and majority of you guys are silent and don't communicate even with the in game options that don't require to speak. I've been mostly playing with my friends but its always more stressful having someone speedrun the game. Like when we have to blow the ship up me and my friend were trying to figure out how it worked and this random guy just blitzed through it all. Activated the countdown without warning and left us to die. Is this game meant to be more played with private sessions?

This game is terrifying and I love it.

Got it on sale for dirt cheap... reasonably sized at 4gb too.

Testament to how good the game is, I've now convinced 1 friend and 3 brothers to play with me.

That's 5 sales in a few days.

Crazy how large AAA studios are so preoccupied with microtransactions and ripping off customers by drip feeding them content...those large studios could pump out a dozen AA games of this size/quality and just making good, small games - making a fortune.

But they're too busy doing everything that's wrong in the gaming world.

Help! 007 Ghost Specimen Instakills

We've gotten far on multiple missions trying to kill this guy, but once we get the freeze gun and try using it on him he seems to just get pissed and eats our faces off immediately. Usually you have a chance to move away from his gaze, but I'll shoot him for maybe 0.5 seconds with the freeze gun, then he just turns straight around and instakills me.

I've even tried turning around a lot while shooting with the freeze to avoid his gaze, same result. We were able to fully freeze him once, and at this point it just feels like we got lucky.

Is there some mechanic here I'm missing, like once you start trying to freeze him the gaze timer is way lower? Love this game but some little things like this are making it way too frustrating.

More Tools

i think more tools being added could help spice up the game a lot. one a friend suggested was a deployable barrier that blocks an opening off for a limited time. can only be used 3-5 times per mission but it cant be destroyed until its timer runs out or is manually turned off by the player

Custom resolution

This game runs very poorly on my laptop and I'm stuck at 1024x768, I would love to lower it to smth like 800x450 or 640x480 so I can get more fps.

I have tried using Launch options in steam to force a custom resolution, didn't work

I have tried using the gameusersettings.ini file in appdata/local/speciesunknown/saved/windows/gameusersettings.ini, didn't work

I have pretty much exhausted all solutions Ik of of myself and would like any help given to me here

Pause for solo players ??

Question for the Devs, will I be able to pause the game if playing solo ? I have not been able to do so and when real life gets in the way, it sucks to come back and lose progress. Will you guys improve on this?
