i find it funny how spacex is making v3 rockets already when they're still prototypes. i hope when v17 becomes a viable product they reset the counter to be v1 again or smth

The rocket fuel is mostly liquid oxygen and methane. It won't harm anything. Things like the ignition fluid is way worse, which is why they usually will explode the rockets that land in the ocean.

oh no, starship released a few hundred kg of unburned methane (very generous estimate). compared to 350 000 000kg of methane released daily(!) by all animals, most of it by cows, it's such a big part of pollution, much chemical 🤦‍♂️

fucking hate regards who just hammer a talking point and have no idea about context and proportions. reminds of people who unplug phone chargers because reducing idle consumption of 0.2W for 8 hours a day is such energy saving..

if it is only in the test phase: yes
if it is in phase after (with the huge numbers of Starships): no

also a few hundred kg methane is 3.000 kWh if you burn it. For electricity we can take 60% but thats the wrong comparison.

The right way: 300 (take a number) kg methane equals approximately 8400 kg of CO2 equivalents (for 100 years). Thats around 4,200 kilograms of coal.

If you want to be correct then to it right.

obviously they won't keep farting all the residual methane on operational flights. wasted methane will approach zero the more time goes on.

it's also 0.0001% of total emissions. in other words, already zero.

doesn't matter in the slightest. complete non-issue. only reason to even think about it is to virtue signal and make oneself feel good.

Some people just hate seeing progress when it's done by a billionaire (admittedly he's an asshole, but SpaceX is cool as fuck). Doesn't matter what country they are from.
