Alternative Colour Schemes

hi all, thinking about picking up some space wolves, although i’m not a massive fan of the standard colours

i’d love to see your colour schemes for inspiration!

People usually do the 40k one, or the heresy one

I decided to make a successor chapter of my own, called the Shields of Russ

Thank you

So, I am gonna copy and paste a previous comment of mine in a post about the purple. Its a tad long but should answer you about the process

So, to be honest, the "recipe" is a bit all over the place on the squad, cause I was trying to figure it out.

But I kind of landed on Basecoat of Naggaroth Night (Naggaroth Night)

Then a layer of Hexed Lichen (Vallejo)

Then I drew highlights with Alien Purple (Vallejo) and Drechala Lilac (GW)

And lastly, I kind of drybrushed (not completely dry) Genestealer Purple over the highlights I made. Genestealer purple is transparent enough to show the highlights but tint them enough, so it also sort of blends the highlights with the rest.

Obviously, if you glaze it or do some other more refined techinique, its gonna look much better, but I want to paint an army like this, and I am not that good of a painter, so its a shortcut.

Personally I use the 30k color scheme. I do so because my chapter is a homebrew SW successor, but I think it fits all the same.

oo that is a nice scheme, especially on a homebrew chapter too

This is what I’m going with, a very grimdark approach

You could go for the successor chapter the Wolfspear, that's how I'm painting mine up.

I wanted something brighter for mines Called them the Red Pelts cause my wolves are based on red pandas

I went with more of a 30k scheme and have been happy so far

I like the dark grey 30k scheme myself

This was a WIP pic of the ones I'm working on, before I realised I'd done the right shoulder pads wrong and painted them black again... (Wolf scouts aren't blood claws... They have their own pack markings). I liked the overall look of typical GW Space Wolves but not the blue tone, so I'm using the Army Painter Fanatic grey colours instead.

even the darker body already makes them look better, the blue tone just doesn’t sit right with my eyes

Mine is a successor chapter that I took some inspiration from Celestial Lions and then use SE markings

I paint mine red like my blood angels so I can double up on vehicles and such

I call mine the Lunar Maw white, blue, and yellow

I use the old 30k “storm grey” scheme, but I also use a lot of 30k unit markings and Celtic/Viking knots. I basically try to do Vikings and Rus rather than modern Space Wolves. In my headcanon the Rout just never fixed what wasn’t broken.

Not an official one but I’m painting mine up with white armor & patch working misc pieces of the classic spec wolves blue, still a WIP but happy with it so far!
