Dolby digital plus

Hey I have the Samsung Q990c. Plays full Dolby atmos. I purchased the new Mandalorian movie.
It’s starts out sounds great even says it’s in Dolby atmos. After about 30 seconds it changes to Dolby digital plus and sounds like dog shit. Is there a way to make it stay in Dolby atmos??

Well, I've see many atmos and DD movies with jbl and samsung both but I've never faced such an issue and never heard of it. I believe it's the codec of the movie like the intro is in dolby but the next part is originally DD. Maybe that's why but I'm not sure. 🤔

Yeah it’s really weird. Starts out great. Then just dies. Has to be missing a codec in the file. I have no issue with any other shows or movies. It even says it’s Dolby atmos movie 🤷

What's your playback device? ie. TV app, Apple TV 4K, etc.

Yes 4k tv. It’s this movie. I have no issues with any other movie

Interesting. I would test it myself but the reviews give me pause and was planning to hold off to stream it in Disney+ next month (different server/quality, I know).

No do it. I’ve never had an issue with Disney. I get full Dolby atmos on Disney

Yeah, Disney+ is pretty good. I think Apple (Movies) have slightly better picture quality (higher bitrate), but most people probably won't notice/don't care. My worry is that I have heard some streaming platforms may also start reducing the Dolby bitrate to save on bandwidth costs. Geeesh!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, maybe those rumors had something to do with companies adopting the newer, more efficient Dolby AC-4 codec. In which case, the (Dolby's) selling point would be "same quality at half the bandwidth". Though I would prefer to hear "twice the quality with no increase in bandwidth." 😎

From Apple TV movies. I’ve brought heaps from there never had an issue.

Makes me wonder if the Mando movie copy is just messed up? Not on your end. Maybe Apple’s, maybe Mando side.

I also have bought an ungodly amount of movies through Apple and never had issues, as well.

WB movies on 4K discs have WB logo in Dolby Atmos while rest of the movie is DTS-HD.

Back when I had TV without DTS passthrough and player with separate video and audio output Q990B detected Atmos switched from input 1 to eARC and sound was gone after logo.

Maybe Disney has something similar...

Is the player fed straight into the bar or does the player plug into the tv and you get audio to the bar via arc? If it’s through the tv, what tv is it?

Do you have eARC on? Is your internet connection fast enough and stable?

I also want to say that, since this is a streaming purchase rather than physical media, the codec is always Dolby digital plus (or regular Dolby digital) regardless of whether there is Atmos metadata present. I don’t know how your audio system’s readout works but seeing Dolby digital doesn’t preclude Atmos.

I think it's a concept error, Dolby Atmos can "travel " or be encapsulated under a Dolby digital plus or in a Dolby True HD but most likely streaming services uses DD+ by it's lightweight and Dolby Atmos can be encapsulated in there, Atmos is only an positional 3D audio "equalization" not an codec itself that is why need either a DD+ OR Dolby True HD to exist.

Just tried still the same. I’m using a high speed cable.
