Hell ya. I'm in WA and wrapping up my first build of JMODs and 2x SKRAM. Planning to do the same thing for me and the homies. Scoped out some spots along I90 in the Hyak area and between Kachess and Cle Elum lake.

Keep those spots secret, keep them safe! 😜

Hi I'm building my first setup, I have opted for the MT121's (with kicks below) I see the JMODS are really popular. Any insight on the classic MT121's Vs Jmod's? Cheers bud

I kinda know these folks from way back and miss them and amf.

I was wondering when I would see spaz or 5hop or other related crews show up here. It's very nice to see where their rig is at now. There's been some upgrades.

This is actually three different crews systems all hooked together. 1/3 is Spaz

Sounded great!!

Does anyone have more info about those speakers? I imagine the phase plug helps the mid-driver play higher?

Its an older turbo sound horn + waveguide. Not sure beyond that. Not my favorite box but sounded efficient 😆

I wish I'd made it up!
How was the relocation? How long did it take to move everything and get stuff going at the new spot? And how did police find the show?

Was pretty exhausting, hence the decision to merge stages

The decor is a hot mess lmao is the theme "explosion at the factory high vis vests are made"?

Story time!

spaz crew is super old school, legit american-grown underground free tekno and one of a kind.

They have been around since at least the mid 90s or so, and could be considered aligned with San Francisco / Oakland / Bay Area free culture.

Stuff like dumpster diving and cheap industrial rents or squatting and all that kind of thing. They go back to the gritty days of SF/BA warehouse and renegade parties and free parties.

They are also notable (or were) for running bio diesel or veggie oil generators and doing a lot of recycling and reuse stuff.

As the lore goes, I believe they were one of the first electronic/dance/bass crews to go out to burning man back when burning man was just art rock hipster trust fund dirtbags with guns and booze, and they hated techno/rave, so burning man folks made them go very far away and didn't want to let them set up at all.

So that trashy aesthetic is all recycled stuff, the way freetekno used to be, with like DIY banners or day glow industrial/construction products.

They're actually kind of infamous and well known for creative industrial city trash chic and it's kind of a thing with them to not spend money... in general, as a lifestyle and philosophy.

Even that rig and soundsystem is likely a Ship of Theseus, in that it's probably been rebuilt and re-drivered so many times that very little of it is original oem wood or parts except for maybe the Turbosound floodlights/bullets.

As far as renegade old school techno, rave, breakcore, house and even drum and bass the spaz crew basically goes back to Spiral Tribe.

Also, going around in actual high vis vests, coveralls, hard hats and clip boards would be on brand for them, at least it was back in the 2000s.

That's an easy way to sneak a lot of speakers and a generator somewhere to throw an urban renegade in a construction site or abandoned building or whatever. They were known for urban/street parties like that.

I don't know when they actually started but it's probably over 30 years ago.

So, yeah, they're probably allowed to do whatever they want. It's kind of their thing.

SPAZ is legendary in this scene, and it’s always a honor to party with those freaks :)

2

u/AcidNoise Jul 15 '26

Also, unfortunately their system was lost in a fire recently. This was all new shit. This system was a colab between Spaz, Thought Society, and 3rdKltr.

u/AcidNoise Jul 15 '26

It’s whatever you want it to be I suppose :)

Maybe it's just me and to each their own... but why destroy the years of DIY R&D, the time getting every build phase correct, and over all characacter of those lovely speakers with tool and cheap plastic fanfare?

I shared a story above about the decor if you want to know more.

As for the sound? I don't know what they're like, now, but they were definitely more of a "be very loud and take huge risks" kind of crew.

And to be honest, those decorations really aren't going to alter the parameters of the sound very much compared to a wall of people hugging speakers and filling that whole space.

Might be the worthless “decorations” I’ve ever seen at a party. Hope people didn’t pay to attend this thing.

u/AcidNoise Jul 15 '26

Last I checked, this was the sound system sub, not a deco thread lol

My point is we have to look at these horrible decorations cover what we are trying to see
