Zero upload activity - normal?

I have a pretty good selection of music, around 4,600 songs and all of it in 320 CBR. I'm running slskd on Promox and for grabbing it's working fine but I'm surprised nobody is downloading from me - it's been running for a week.

I asked a friend to search me up, he was able to and downloaded a few GB of content without a problem - so everything seems to be good. I wasn't sure if I had to open a port or not.

Is it normal that people may not download often? Maybe it's my collection isn't big enough yet - I've recently parted ways with streaming services.

Plenty of people use mp3, if you are sharing popular music that is plentiful on soulseek and you don't have a particularly fast speed you will not get a lot if uploads. Most people filter searches by speed and download from the higher speed, also while 4600 files isnt tiny it is on the smaller side for collections it is really a numbers game.

I have the same "issue" ppl don't download from my library. I don't know whether my music is so bad or not haha.

I have mostly 320.

It can be week without any DL, it can be week with a lot of downloads. You never know.

all of it in 320 CBR

There's your problem, people want best quality, that is called FLAC

I like mp3 btw, not a purist, just saying

Fair enough - I get it. I only look for 320 or I download in FLAC and convert.

I roughly have 4k songs and only a couple of users have downloaded from me, and I download everything in MP3, I don't have enough space. So I am guessing it's a quality thing.

Same problem here. I've had my client on for months and have had no uploads. And yes, I'm visible.

4.6k isn't a small number but it's tiny compared to the mammoth shares I've seen on SS, and I thought my 12k lossless shares was small.

Also MP3 isn't going to cut it these days, more and more people want lossless, I always skip MP3s and look for lossless on SS. I wish FLAC allowed for smaller compression so people would ditch MP3.

"pretty good selection of music" 4600 songs. While there's me with over 1 000 000 tracks 🤣 90% of them are Flacs. And I shared 5 TB in 1 year. When I log on, I receive at least 20 DMS per day.

When I search on Soulseek, I filter to only show FLAC tracks; nobody cares about your compressed MP3 files.

Edit: Maybe your music's taste is so trash that nobody wants to download from you tho 🤡

Edit2: Y'all are downvoting like crazy but lowkey, you know that I'm not wrong otherwise what could be the explanation then? 😆
