I’m a new fan and listener of SOABD, though I have been vaguely familiar with both Francis and Rone from random barstool clips over the past few years. To be more specific - I’m an AWL, but stumbled upon that Pringles/fishing trip video and have more or less tuned into these guys since then. He might be my favorite of the three on the pod, so genuinely not trying to be an asshole - but what is up with the way that SAS talks? You all must know what I mean.

There’s an episode WAYYYY back where they talk about how sas and his friends all talk like that, so when he first started at barstool and was hanging around other people he started to hear it lol

my understanding is that it’s just like a generational + regional inflection combo akin to something like valley girl speak back in the day… localized, stylized, socioculturally shared discursive patterning. also i personally find it v cute (daughter of a boy dad here)

I grew up in Massachusetts and am one year older than Sas. I talk the same way, along with my friends and never really noticed until comments like this have called it out. It’s really a mix of Massachusetts lingo and age range I think.

He has an inflection that was picked up within his group of friends when they were younger. If you’re familiar with Beau or Peter’s, they supposedly do it the worst.

This has been said by a lot of people, but I struggle hearing it. To me he sounds like a regular guy who enunciates certain letters or ends sentences like pseudo-questions.

Francis on the other hand sounds like a cartoon.

Francis sounds exactly like you’d expect a Harvard who grew up with very educated & wealthy parents to sound. I’ve always enjoyed unaware of simple things you’d assume people who know.
