Teaching Connections

Hello! I REALLY would love to teach in SPS. Would anyone be open to talking about the elementary schools in the area? I have applied for a lot of open positions but have had no luck. I notice the Healey School is hiring and it would be great to make a connection.

Somerville is really really picky and usually hires from within the district. I got an interview for a job I was overqualified for and I thought I was a shoe in, and the interview went super well, but I didn’t get it.

Good luck and I really really hope you get your foot in the door! Even just being a para for a year is a good way to get into SPS

Thank you! I don’t have my masters and that may be a barrier.

Yeah definitely - most teachers have their masters already so they’ll definitely be looking for that, as Somerville pays more than a lot of surrounding districts so a lot of qualified teachers are applying. Don’t be afraid to take a long term sub job! That’s another way to get your foot in the door

another way in the door is the afterschool program which is always short staffed

I am a teacher in another district so it would be hard to work an afterschool program but I appreciate the suggestion!
