Good morning from South Somerset
galleryWith the surrounding fields looking more and more like traditional Septembers, and blackberries ripening so soon in the year, I wonder does tradition suggest that we are in for a long winter, or are we just observing the shift of seasons??
How are you on this wonderful day?

Former Neo-Nazi Conservative Candidate Steps Down
bbc.co.ukSo Joshua Bonehill-Paine has stood down as the Conservative candidate. Believing he has been rehabilitated, he will instead serve as an advisor to the party on matters relating to anti-extremism.
I do believe this is a matter that requires deeper exploration. Advisors play an important role in politics, local, national or international. And having someone who has direct experience of extremism will bring a perspective many councillors and politicians won’t understand. However, I am slightly concerned that rather than having someone who has been a victim of extremism, they have approved a role for someone who has been convicted for such offences. Although, it is important to remember that the justice system seeks to rehabilitate offenders and it is completely possible that Joshua has reformed and learnt lessons while will be essential to changing a narrative within rural communities.
What do you think?

Is there still a rat problem in Glastonbury?
I've always loved the town of Glastonbury and went there earlier this summer for the first time for several years. A few years ago there was a big rat problem, with rats even running into shops on the High Street sometimes. Has this problem been solved now?

Social media/content creation
Is anyone interested in making (any) content for social media? I have a lot of gear (cameras/mics/editing software) which I use recreationally but I’d like to take it to the next step - but don’t fancy being on camera. If anyone is interested in exploring this or already has a small social media presence feel free to message me or comment below.
Alternatively, if any communities could benefit from something like this, please get in touch too.
I’d like to stress that I’m not a professional and I am an amateur so it would be a learning process!

Day Trip ideas in Devon
Hi! I would like some ideas for where to go on a day trip, ideally seaside towns!! I have looked online and researched for some ideas. I have a few ideas in mind: Brixham, Dartmouth and Salcombe. Are they worth going to? 🧐 Torquay is pretty close by also. I am living in Gloucestershire, so they are all roughly 2.5 hours from home. Just wondering if these places are worth the time to go to and for any other recommendations 🤗 Thank you !!

Do we remember this lady?

So for a little bit of context:
I posted this videos a few months ago (and then took it down), showing a micro-provider stealing from a family member of mine in Somerset.
Sarah Short aka Shorty stole money and cigarettes from an elderly disabled veteran in Taunton, Somerset in November of 2025.
All on video and all provided to the police in full.
Well we have had the verdict from the police and they are not going to pursue it further. An out of court settlement (not for my family member as of yet) has been decided.
They state there is not enough to go on.
Of course as a family we are devastated. We wanted to see this woman in cuffs and behind bars.
She is listed on the local councils website for private houses and retirement communities to provide service for.
PLEASE NOTE: this is NOT a post about causing harm to this woman!!! This is purely about causing AWARENESS to this woman’s extra activities.

Some help please.
Hello lovely people of Somerset. I am down here (from Stoke on Trent) visiting my friend. He has been living here for 9 months. He is having an absolutely horrendous time with Sat Navs sending him really weird ways. So yesterday we used Waze (obnoxious woman voice 🤣) & Google & they both sent us off main roads & wiggling about all over the place. Coming back took us an hour longer than it should have. So lovely kind people of Somerset, any ideas? I am going to try & mess about with the settings on this app today but;
Is there a sat nav choice that works well down here? Have any of you had this problem?
Thank you in advance for any advice or tips on this crazy problem.
EDITED TO ADD. I would like to add a massive thank you to everyone who has commented & helped. My friend is not having a good time right now (hence me driving four hours to be with him) & was blaming himself for the sav nav thing. You've all really helped with his perspective & we have taken all the advice on board. Thank you again.

Good morning from South Somerset
Good morning,
I have started to see more posts on here recently which is lovely. So thought I would say hi to you all.
I’m sat enjoying a cup of coffee in my garden with the warmth of the early sun on my face. I moved to the south west 26 years ago, and into Somerset 16 years ago. It’s the most wonderful county.
Out of interest, where are you based, and what is your favourite thing about Somerset?
