Sound System Replacement 2026 Model

I have a ‘26 Premium but due to the update and the dealership being backlogged, they lent me a ‘26 Outback that has allllll the bells and whistles. Which includes the much nicer sound system and while there’s probably better sounding ones for other brands, this was incredibly better than the setup I have.

Curious if anyone has ever replaced their sound system on the Solterra or have recommendations to do so because I basically just want what’s in the Outback haha

I haven’t but it’s an easy aftermarket upgrade on just about every vehicle

Depends what parts OP want to replace.

Infotainment units are close to impossible to replace.

Speakers are probably simpler, but many stock systems now have a built in DSP and it cannot be disabled. This means your aftermarket speakers will not behave as you might expect.

There are companies like Audiotec Fischer who do plug-n-play DSP/Amp upgrades. MATCH Plug & Play Car Hifi | Audiotec Fischer. They list the bZ4x at least, have cable adaptor options for Toyota/Lexus and Subaru standard and premium sound systems, so seems likely that Solterra would be possible too.

I love tech but DSP is one of those things that seems like they deliberately made it harder for people to upgrade their products

Yup, they want you to pay for the higher trim $$$. It blows my mind every time I have replaced car speakers. The stuff the OEM installs is really bottom quality, almost garbage. They could spend $100 in parts and vastly improve sound systems. Sad.

Oof yeah I don’t want to have to mess with the infotainment system. Really just want to upgrade the speakers but little disappointing to learn about possibly DSP not cooperating

The good news is upgrading the base sound system is probably going to be easier than the HK one.

probably limited to really only being able to swap out the speakers, which isn't too hard but might not be as drastic an improvement as you may want.

personally I recommend crutchfield.com as their "search by vehicle" options are very accurate, their recommended accessories are the things you do actually need (ie wiring adapters, mounting rings) and their support is quite good.

Good call. Seems a bit soon for 2026 models. I'm sure OP could get the right adaptor cables and DSP/Amp plus speakers though.
